U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on April 14 that he is proud of Washington cutting off funding to Ukraine amid Russian aggression, listing it among the Trump administration’s top achievements.

Speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Athens, Georgia, Vance recalled being confronted by a Ukrainian-American over his calls to halt funding for Ukraine.

“And this person got really agitated at me because I was saying we should stop funding the Ukraine war,” Vance said.

While it did not spell out permanent protection

If a treaty does not spell out permanent protection, then it does not give permanent protection. That is not how treaties work. It is not a “valid interpretation” to pretend a treaty gives guarantees that it does not specify.

He still said it. I don’t care if he said it to a group of clowns at a birthday party, the Vice President of the USA just admitted publicaly that he’s happy civilians in Ukraine are dying because they reneged on an international promise.

This is 100% why I hope no country, no matter what happens in the coming decade or more, ever gives the USA an ounce of trust ever again. A century of good will, ally-ship, and negotiation completely pissed away in less than a year. Why should ANY of us ever trust the USA to hold up any ounce of promise ever again?

History Lesson: Why all countries need to band together and help Ukraine

The USSR, which was known as the Soviet Union and was a communist government, used to have many countries under their umbrella of control, including Ukraine.

When the Berlin Wall fell in the early 90’s Russia dropped the communist part of their government and became the Russian Federation. They gave all the countries under their umbrella autonomy. So more or less, the Russian Federation was no longer in control of all these countries.

Putin is the current President of Russia. He has held this position since 2012, after previously serving as President from 2000 to 2008 and as Prime Minister from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2008 to 2012.

Putin has expressed a desire to restore the glory of the Soviet Union, which is a key part of his domestic and foreign policy goals. He aims to regain Russia’s influence in world affairs and strengthen its position against perceived threats, particularly from NATO. (https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26769481)

If Putin regains control of Ukraine, he will move on to the next country, then the next country, until Russia’s old glory is restored.

    This must not happen.

Completely agree and the best way to do this is to consistently call out breaches of international law. The problem with the part of the world that is most threatened by Russia is that it tends to go quiet when its allies (the US and Israel) breach international law, which comes across as hipocrisy / a double standard. The more consistent they are the more likely they are to get global support.

Many of these countries were once colonial empires so they understand imperialism well. They should know that in order to form a coherent argument they need to be against imperialism universally, not just be against it when it’s directed their way which is a difficult case to make.

      This must not happen.

      Why?

Right, I agree with that. The wording of the post makes it seem as though Russia shouldn’t be allowed to reestablish a union of countries through any means.

The Soviet Union was entered voluntarily. Ukraine was the first member nation.

Maybe there wouldnt be so many sit outs if the Democratic party actually tried to help people, or at least said they will. People are fucking stupid. Whether you think voting for the lesser evil is logically correct or not, that’s evidently not how the average American feels. Running an uninspiring, pro genocide campaign doesn’t encourage people who don’t feel targeted by current politics to engage.

If there’s ever another fair election, they simply have to do better. The bar was in the floor and they couldn’t clear it.

They don’t want to understand that harris was the lesser evil from where to start something new. But they are also coward enough to not admit that by not voting, they put pedohitler and harris at the same level.

They won’t ever admit it because they know it means that they couldn’t see anything worse on the child rapist than in harris. In the end, for them, raping children and supporting israhell not worse than just supporting israhell, meaning that for them, raping children is not something to consider when voting for a president.

I think when it comes to those people, my judgement is fair: they are amoral idiots who are maybe worse than trump supporters. Trump supporters proudly exclaim they’re involved in fascism and everything else that history taught us is horrendous. The protest non voting “leftist” not only hides what they are, they seek to maximize the number of others who increase the damage. Then they want you to feel morally inferior if you didn’t join them in helping to destroy the social fabric.

I used to be critical of sitouts but over time I’ve grown more sympathetic towards them. Imagine voting out Trump with the expectation that Trump is going to come swinging next election and democrats will prepare to make sure fascism doesn’t get a foothold in America. And then for the next 4 years you see nothing being done to prevent fascism and what worse, you see democrats capitulate to fascists and normalize fascism by moving to the right themselves. I too would get jaded about voting when there’s no “I don’t want fascists” option. What failed America weren’t the sitouts. It’s the decades of political apathy letting corporations take over politics, which has led to republicans going full fascist and democrats turning into controlled opposition.

Blaming the sitouts isn’t going to solve anything because what are they supposed to do? Voting for democrats isn’t going to get rid of the fascists, it’s only going to delay until the democrats themselves turn openly fascist. Obviously they shouldn’t vote for the republican party because that’s a lost cause. Voting current third party candidates is kinda pointless because of how the political system works. So what’s the solution you expect from the sitouts? I’dsay sitouts have nothing to do until there’s a schism in the democratic party and the progressives split from the establishment democrats. Then sitouts should vote for the progressives and I imagine the vast majority of them will because then they’ll actually have someone willing to represent them.

While Biden should have done more, Trump was put on trial. The system could and should have worked, and Trump would be in prison, except for the corrupt judges instated by Republicans who sabotaged the trials. Especially SCROTUS.

And now the sitouts, who you are sympathetic to, has just put Republicans in power again. And Republicans are appointing more corrupt judges, stacking the courts. All because of sitouts. And then when Democrats are in power again, sitouts will again complain about Democrats doing nothing when those corrupt judges block Democrats. Fuck sitouts, they are stupid.

Do you know what would’ve kept Trump away? Absolute low-hanging fruits like fixing the healthcare system and affordability. Democrats could’ve taken a “what’s a social democracy” checklist, put half of them as their campaign promises and had a landslide victory. The democrats didn’t need to put Trump in prison to prevent him, all they needed to do was give the people what they need and they couldn’t even do that because it would hurt their corporate overlords.

That’s not what I said. I said “shit is bad and I have a choice between shit getting worse fast or slow, so I don’t care which I choose because both options lead to shit going bad”.

If you had to pick between getting fucking in the ass with a 9 inch dildo or a 6 inch dildo that will eventually grow to 9 inches, do you really care that the 6 inches is smaller right now? Or would you prefer to not get fucked in the ass in the first place? You probably wouldn’t be getting fucked in the ass by a 9 inch dildo if the alternative was to not get fucked in the ass at all.

Yeah. And none of it would’ve happened if the democrats had actually tried to appeal to their voters instead of pulling the same “but our hands are tied so we won’t even try” shit they’ve been doing for decades. Do you want a pad on the back for it happening in 2025 and not 2022-2023? Had Harris been voted it would be happening in 2029. You’re missing the big picture. This was always going to happen because there’s no pushback against fascism, there’s only kicking the can down the road.

You just illustrated in your own analogy perfectly what our point is. These people never had a real choice if they cared about the outcome, they just wanted to feel blameless for the bad choice they wanted to make.

Perhaps, if more people voted for Dems more regularly they’d have more balls to do stuff like throw trump in jail etc. But as it is now, they have to deal with having a very tight margins on the political capital they have to spend. Not voting just makes things worse.

As I pointed out in my other comment, they didn’t need to throw Trump in jail. Had they campaigned on what people actually need (you know shit that is common sense in other western nations like free healthcare, affordable housing, workers rights, free education) they would’ve easily beaten Trump. This notion that they needed to lock up Trump to win is exactly what is wrong with the democratic party. It’s not focusing on what they can do for the people, it’s focusing on what they can do to be in power. Demand more from the democrats.

You are missing my point. They can’t do the things that people want because the same people don’t vote for them enough and give them big enough majority and enough political capital. Its always 49,9% vs. 50,1% or something stupid like that. In that sort of system they have to walk the middle road as much as possible to pull the morons away from the right. If they start doing stuff like universal healthcare etc, the morons are just going to yell “communism!!111!!1!” and vote them out in the next cycle. So of course they can’t do that, because they are afraid of being voted out.

Its 100% the voters fault for being such stupid morons that the adults in the room have to cater to the idiot babies who have the votes.

Yeah I see the problem. The people need to take the first step and support them for more than a couple of election cycles. And I don’t mean just voting. Vote, contact them, go to their events, call them, send mail, emails. Make sure your voice is heard.

I find it ridiculous that people sit at home and yell at their tv “they aren’t doing what I want!” and think they are politically active. Goddamn morons.

People not wanting blood on their hands is not an endorsement of Republicans doing more of the same.

The only reason you even frame it like that is because you can’t defend a party of mass murderers on their own merits, so you have to compare them to Republicans to absolve your own complicity.

All you hear when you discuss with them is “lib”, “libtard”, some basic insults and a fixed set of “reasons” why they couldn’t get to vote for harris and why it’s not their fault at all that pedohitler is president.

They are just cowards who refuse to admit they fucked up greatly. It’s always someone else’s fault with them.

The thing about voting for a lesser evil, is you’re still voting for evil. You’re complicit in evil and then pat yourself on the back for it. You perpetuate an evil system and then are surprised when it gets more evil, and then blame those who tell you support someone not evil, while complaining about the evil you wrought. Its mindboggling.

Fine, let’s work out a system that’s better and get it in place. In the meantime, this is the system we have: a two-party system. In the case of the last election, one candidate was clearly far, far more abhorrent than the other. If you can’t see or admit that, then we don’t have anything to discuss. Anyone who saw that, yet didn’t vote, is complicit in us ending up with the far worse option.

Are you referring to the 2022 bombing of a maternity hospital in Mariupol, the 2024 bombing of a maternity hospital in Kyiv, or the 2025 attacks against children’s hospitals in Kherson, Kharkiv, Kamianske, and Odessa? (These are just the results from the first page of search results.)

Or are you referring to Russia literally stealing Ukrainian children from their families to try to erase their culture?

I say those things to say this: We can all pretend to be stupid when it suits us. I know you weren’t thinking of Ukrainian children. It suits me right now to ensure those examples are fresh on your mind.

The game of politics is still being played even if you chose to make moves that didn’t contribute strategically. The U.S. system is not democratic, and unless it is reformed, voters must compromise their morals to achieve some of their aims. It sucks, but it’s the reality.
You made a call. You thought it was the most moral thing you could do at the time.

Rather than attack your past decisions, or try to convince you to see things from my worldview — I want to ask if you could go back in time and explain the current state of the world to yourself do you think you would make the same voting decisions again?

Hamas October 7 incursion was arguably a genocide against Israel. For example Israel Gaza: Hamas raped and mutilated women on 7 October, BBC hears:

In the video, the woman known as Witness S mimes the attackers picking up and passing the victim from one to another.

“She was alive,” the witness says. “She was bleeding from her back.”

She goes on to detail how the men cut off parts of the victim’s body during the assault.

“They sliced her breast and threw it on the street,” she says. “They were playing with it.”

The victim was passed to another man in uniform, she continues.

“He penetrated her, and shot her in the head before he finished. He didn’t even pick up his pants; he shoots and ejaculates.”

One man we spoke to from the festival site said he heard the “noises and screams of people being murdered, raped, decapitated”.

And Hamas kidnapped 250 Israeli civilians and soldiers were also taken as hostages to the Gaza Strip, including 30 kidnapped children.

This was straight out an act of war. Hamas, with the majority support of Gaza Palestinians, started this war. While I do not endorse everything Israel has done in Gaza, the basic justification for Israel’s invasion of Gaza to rescue their hostages was 100% legitimate. And Biden and Harris set limits on what Israel could do, unlike Trump.

              “A genocide against Israel”🤣

This is the sort of shit Democrat voters say unironically.

So took you took action that helped the GOP, instead of biting the sour apple and trying to prevent the GOP from winning, you helped fracture the opposition to them, for what?

The weird satisfaction of avoiding a hypothetical scenario that would have been less bad than the current one.

Give yourself a nickel, you played yourself well.

No I participated in Democracy and voted for who I felt best represented me. I voted for the Palestinian choice and stood in solidarity with Palestinians. You know the people you still mock and claim deserve what they got and deserve to die, and that you claim are stupid. The only people playing here are Democrats. They absolutely give zero shits about Palestinians or Muslims. They only care about Zionists. Heck, you can’t even get Democratic leadership to vote still on ending the funding for this illegal war, and many of them have come out in support of Trump’s actions.

With the current political system in the US when you have a system based on FPTP, a ridiculously undemocratic system, you can’t use normal democratic rules.

You need to play the game within the rules.

The green party has zero chance to get into congress or gain any influence, they will only steal votes from the Democrats, and that will only serve the GOP.

Until the US rids it self from FPTP, any vote for any other party other than the Dems will gain the GOP.

Democrats deserve to lose then. I mean I honestly don’t see any difference at this point between Zionist and Democrats. They both do evil things and then claim they are the victims. If only people like you would actually have a moral compass then you’d spend your time criticizing anyone who didn’t vote for a green party candidate.

I get your feeling of hopelessness, the best you can do right now is to work to promote proportional representation over FPTP, and while doing that keep voting to keep the GOP out of power, meaning voting democrat.

So you want me to vote against the Palestinian’s preferred choice of Green Party for AIPAC-owned pro-genocide Democrats in order to save the Palestinians, because you believe Palestinians are too stupid to know what is good for them? Was it good for you when ICE, trained by the IDF, killed a few Americans? That is who your politicians vote to support. Your choices have consequences.

If you admit this was about who “deserves” a political consequence, you have just admitted you never gave a fuck about Gaza to begin with. It was about weird punishment for you. Thanks for admitting that.

If you can’t do that, start layering on some coats of Scotchgard. You’ll know it’s ready when you can pressure-wash it without darkening the upholstery.

They’re in Athens, GA? That’s a really nice college town, home of REM and the B-52s, great restaurants, etc. It’s one of my favorite places to visit for business.

Why does MAGA have to show up there and shit all over such a nice college town? Stick to your shithole cities like Boise and Salt Lake City. Leave nice places like Athens alone.
