  • Literally what happened to our grandparents and parents after World War 2. And then the subsequent generation will grow up in abundant wealth, developing a greedy attitude and cause corruption, resulting in social angst which will be exploited by demagogues. Then a new system emerges which promises a better life, but that system breeds yet another spoiled generation that will cause corruption which yet again causes social upheaval that will be exploited by ambitious individuals.

    Rinse and repeat.

  • The problem is the messaging. The old farts in the Democratic party don’t know how to use social media. And even old timers here in Lemmy don’t want to admit it, social media is the new frontline to win hearts and minds of voters. Not many people watch televisions these days or read newspapers, a lot of information are coming from social media.

Social media is part of the problem for misinformation, but even in the early days of the platform, it was used to organise authentic democratic grassroots protests from Arab Spring to Occupy Wall Street. Even Obama knew the importance of social media and he was called the first social media president for a reason. The younger generations leftist politicians are realising how adept the right has been with social media, and kudos to the likes of Mamdani for co-opting back the platform to organise for the left.

  • I see a lot of right wing influencers arguing a kind of might makes right rhetoric.

Always the case with fucking fascists.

While that is the case, I wonder how many in America actually approves of this given the proliferation of right wing bot accounts. I think that even if the US decides to invade Greenland, that might trigger a US civil war because, unlike Venezuela and Iraq where there are dictators which give plausible excuse to invade, Denmark and Greenland is clearly a democratic and peaceful country. A lot of Americans know this. Invading Venezuela did not even create a rally around the flag effect in favour of Trump admin as some might have expected, in order for Trump to artificially shore up his approval ratings. I certainly thought that more Americans might have gotten on board with Trump admin immediately, considering how they jumped the bandwagon to support the invasion of Iraq.

  • The Nazis remilitarized which spurred short term economic growth, which was then used to pay for the extremely generous social welfare benefits to the Germans, who were appreciative of this because they were deeply traumatised by hyperinflation of the Great Depression. But this excessive government spending is turning the German wallets inside out; and the plunder of conquered nations gave Nazi Germany some needed cash injection to keep their economy going. If you don’t believe me, look up Hjalmar Schacht, Hitler’s economic minister, who warned the fuhrer that the state’s finances were nearly out in the late 1930s. Schacht’s savvy financial acumen had kept the Nazi German economy running longer than it should have been. He was dubbed the “dark wizard of finance”, partly because his confiscation of Jewish assets, before the war, yielded the Nazis much needed finances.
