For awhile it was single downvotes, but it seems that moved up to 2-3 on each comment. Even the most benign stuff gets hit, the pattern is clear.

Can I find this person and block them from seeing my posts? Never really delved into how lemmy works.

Probably doesn’t matter much because after awhile the forget and leave me alone for a bit.

You can discover who is doing it with Lemvotes

But no, you can’t block them. Here in the real world (as opposed to the dystopian centralized platforms that have largely supplanted public discourse), it is not possible to isolate a specific individual and deny them access to information provided freely to the rest of the general public.

Should their public engagement rise to the level of harassment, there are legal options you can take to compel their restraint. But downvoting everything you do does not rise to such a level.

Looks like a normal short term lemmy fight, someone didn’t like what they said in a thread and opened their history and downvoted everything on the first screen. Going back 3 days and the downvotes stop.

lemmy.world appears to be their main account, this seems to be the post that triggered them do do their downvoting spree: https://lemmy.world/post/41260627

Looks like the sock puppet master was angry for about 20 minutes, and got tired of manually downvoting. Still pretty terrible vote manipulation making lemmy a hostile place.

I think on the original offending post, OP made some somewhat inflammatory comments about ADHD and Autism further down. I imagine the downvoter felt personally hurt by these comments, hence the temporary spree, driven mostly by emotion. I don’t agree with the vote manipulation but not knowing their full story I would caution against people coming across this and retaliating against this person. It seems like it was just a short response and hopefully they have had a chance to cool off now.

It’s 2 years old, as opposed to the sock puppet ones which are 4 months old. It’s voting the same way as the other 3 also. I guess it doesn’t really matter which is the main, just thought I’d add it regardless since it wasn’t mentioned.

43 downvotes across 2 minutes but at a 4 hours earlier then the other downvoting falsewhite accounts.

All targeting the same person as the other 3 accounts, 4 hours apart? That’s quite a coincidence if it’s not the same person. My guess is they first went through with their main account, then decided to do the same later with their other accounts. Either way, it’s the exact same behavior as the others, so it’s worth calling out in the exact same way.

Yeah… there are a couple of toxic peeps I found from DB0, but I think it might work regardless. I could take a look and see.

Edit: Taking a look at the sight, it’s really good looking. Too bad their CoC is a thing, as that’s going to cause a lot of problems. Any CoC is bad for a community, and is how you do ethical source software, which I’m wholly against.

Basically, a CoC can be the opposite of what it intended to be, as it can be weaponized by people who want to start problems in a community. They can be vague, punishment can be selective, and they can be confusing messes. I tried to find something on how CoC’s are destructive in this manner, but I don’t recall what it was.

I was essentially commenting on a separate comment, not OP’s post in particular.

As for concerns about the CoC, people can read the CoC and learn how to bend the rules so as to get people in trouble. That was my huge red flag if there was a CoC.

I’m going to say - get over it.

This is not Reddit, where downvoting would actually prevent you from posting.

This is the Fediverse, where, you can keep going. Who gives a fuck?

The whinier you are about being downvoted, the more I think you deserve it. Just like anyone who I’ve come across who has amassed a lot of upvotes, turned out to be the biggest assholes I’ve come across.

I would argue that his massive history and modlogs of him being a shitty person with inflammatory comments and toxic takes are why he deserves it. It should be obvious that after two years of mod corrective actions for egregious behavior he’s not going to change.

Him doing the “oh, woe is me” act here feels pretty hollow.

I think OP is right to be concerned, because while we don’t have karma like reddit (thank god), supposing someome was browsing old posts in a comm[unity] they might utilise the “Top of all time” filter or even the “most controversial of all time” filter - if our OP here makes a particularly useful post, e.g about a tech support issue - then I’m pretty sure having extra downvotes will actually reduce the reach and visibility of the post, using these filters.

Also in this case it was just useful because it exposes someone acting in bad faith on the fed.

It’s about the findability of the post and correctness of votes. A serial downvoter will diminish both, creating a disconnect between the real quality and the perceived quality.

No those three votes probably won’t make a big difference, but it’s a real problem if this becomes commonplace

Is it because of that time you were defending pedophilia and regurgitating MAP talking points?

EDIT: or maybe it’s the constant repulsive content that has resulted in pages, and pages, and pages of mod actions for years? For things such as: racism, transphobia, actual antisemitism, advocating violence, racism again, and look…

    pedophile apologia again…

There were a few pedo defenders in that thread (see the other user that got fully banned for doubling down over and over again). I tagged the profiles making excuses for pedos which is why I knew who OP was (roughly).

Just kinda feel like people who try to equate pedophiles as part of the queer community are probably shitty people. And probably have shitty takes… and looks like they have a lot of shitty takes. So much that theyre whining about getting downvoted.

Most offenders I’ve interacted with have no specific attraction to children at all. They want to rape someone and children just happen to make ideal victims by being smaller and weaker and depending on age and upbringing may not even realize a crime had occurred or be able to advocate for themselves. Most of the offenders would have / often had also raped the elderly or disabled if given the chance. They would even attempt to prey on the smaller or weaker staff members or other patients if given the opportunity.

There were a few edge cases of profoundly psychotic / ID patients who genuinely just didn’t know any better but again it was rarely a specific attraction and more of an overall disinhibition, they would generally also have trespassing, petty theft, and property damage charges and were showing their genitals to just about anyone. Violent and sexual intrusive thoughts can be a part of some OCD presentations but the thoughts usually go away when the underlying anxiety is treated with medication and behavioral therapy. Pts with violent and sexual intrusive thoughts also pretty much never offend, to the extent that I never really interacted with that population until after leaving forensics. They’re a super high suicide risk though due to not understanding the actual psychological mechanism of the thoughts (self-reinforcing through anxiety, not attraction).

I’m not saying attraction to children doesn’t exist, but when we’re taking about the actual issue of child sexual assault it’s just an unproductive line of discussion that relates very little to the actual core issues. The “can’t help being attracted” is mostly pop-psychology TV shows use to tell a more emotionally charged story.

Now that said, we do have a huge issue as a society with allowing the high of righteous fury to interfere with victims actually receiving justice. Those accused have just as much of a right to due process as anyone accused of any other crime. Interfering with that right either creates massive overreach by the legal system or in individual cases damages evidence that would be used to fairly prosecute an offender. It also creates a social environment where people protect their offending loved ones out of fear for them, when they should feel secure in the knowledge that while they will probably always love the offender, they can and will be safely separated from the rest of society (or at least be forced to live under monitoring and away from possible victims) for the rest of their natural life.

I think the point is that she was a child rapist, not necessarily a pedophile.

Some child rapists rape children because of the power imbalance etc., not necessarily out of physical, sexual, or romantic attraction.

We don’t get to choose who and what we are attracted to. 🤷🏻‍♂️ However, that does not absolve one of immoral actions.

I highly recommend going into settings and hiding downvotes from yourself. Stick to dealing with the people who at least bother to engage in written form.

Downvoting is lazy and adds zero value. It’s pure masochism to let yourself get even a tiny bit annoyed just because some rando on the other side of the world spent 0.5 seconds clicking a down arrow on your comment - which they probably didn’t even read to the end.

falseWhite mass downvotes from accounts on at least three instances that I’ve seen. There are several others that I’ve noticed, but it hasn’t bothered me enough to look into it beyond that.
