If you weren’t already super psyched for the Big Beautiful Bill borrowing caps making law school unaffordable for many, get ready to learn that most lawyerly public service is no longer getting loan forgiveness. Because public service itself is going to “illegal.”

The Trump administration’s ongoing war on the legal profession continues with the Department of Education releasing its finalized Public Service Loan Forgiveness rule — a process kicked off in March when Trump issued his Restoring Public Service Loan Forgiveness Executive Order — and while its impact will be felt across education, the new rule is especially brutal for law school graduates, with the DOE cutting off forgiveness to those causes it deems to be supporting “illegal activity.” And, if you hadn’t already guessed what it means to support “illegal” activity in this regime, they mean jobs like “representing immigrants” and “advocating for transgender rights.”

This sounds like a directive from Miller. Trump is too much of a mush brain to have come up with this himself.

The people supporting this sort of thing should be shot. I’m not joking or exaggerating. They have abandoned society in its entirety and are a legitimate danger to its continued existence.

I am hoping Blue State governors form a ReUnion army. I want to properly finish Reconstruction, with my two bloodied hands. I don’t want to spend the last 40ish years of my life in a MAGA hellscape.

It will suck to fight and to do awful things, perhaps even to die horribly. But to live with the MAGAT, is to become the MAGAT.

Wouldn’t this also include any form of defense law? Sounds like you wouldn’t even be able to represent anyone in court who is being accused of “illegal activity”, without losing your loan forgiveness.

If Biden had actually fixed this shit when Dems had the numbers, trump never would have had a second term…

You can’t promise voters one thing in a campaign, call them stupid while in office for thinking it would happen, then promise in the next campaign you’ll actually do it and expect to get re-elected.

Hell, trump doing that to his voters is the whole reason Biden finally got in the oval ~40 years after his first attempt.

Does pepper ridge farms remember how it became Trump’s SC?

You have to go back a decade, these days it’s a big ask…

        Spoiler:

Neoliberals and Obama wouldn’t push Obama’s pick thru so it could be used as a stick to get people to vote Hillary.

They bet the country’s future and lost. Like, it most likely hurt more than helped. It motivated republicans to vote, and it turned off potential Dem voters.

        So again:

If they had done what they were elected to, trump never would have won that election.

To be fair, Obama’s pick fucking sucked and also helped fuck over democracy by slow-walking Trump’s prosecution.

That’s another example of what I was saying the other day, about how it’s not so much that Obama was fucking up at being progressive, but instead that he was succeeding at being neoliberal controlled opposition.

If I leave my door open and someone robs me, that’s a little bit my fault. But it’s a lot the robber’s fault.

The Republicans have agency. They choose to be human shaped trash bags. They deserve the majority of the blame and scorn. They are the worst people on earth.

To stretch the metaphor; If you leave your door open and collaborate with the robber in order to commit blatant insurance fraud it’s both your fault.

The Democrats also have agency, they are the friends and coworkers of “the worst people on earth”.

What if someone else is in charge of the door and we all say “Hey I think those robbers are coming back, can we close and lock the door?” Then that person makes the door a little bit less ajar but still open and tells you to thank them. And you say “The door is still open, can we close it?” Then the door person walks away.

Yes, it’s the robber doing the robbing, but it’s also very much the fault of the person who chose to only address the problem in a superficial way.

I mean, kind of, but the robber is the root cause. They have agency and choose to rob. If it was flood protection, yeah, can’t blame the water.

The Republicans deserve the bulk of the blame

Yes, let’s talking about the dems every fucking time trump does something nazi or shitty.

      • Trump is cutting benefits
      • Invading US cities
      • Kidnapping and disappearing people, some US citizens
      • Murdering people on boats so he can steal their oil
      • Demolishing the white house
      • Grifting at every corner

But yes, somehow, let’s talk about the dems.

The point is not to shift blame to the democrats. The point is to make light of the fact that the dems are controlled opposition, and they still serve the same capitalist class that maga does.

Until we abandon the capitalist, bourgeois parties, the descent into fascism will continue - as the democrats ensured after waffling each time they were in power these past few decades. No amount of lesser evilism or electoralism will get us out of this.

None of that would be happening if the dems hadn’t put oligarchs and a foreign genocidal nation before their constituents.

Sure we could pat them on the back and tell them none of it is their fault, but each time we give them slack, they hang themselves with it. Better to keep up the pressure, especially when it’s justified. Maybe we might even get 2 cents of change out of it if we are lucky.

SCOTUS told us it isn’t illegal if the president does it. He literally could have mandated all data on federal student loans be forgiven. Biden sat on his hands for 4 years and expected people to just support his designated successor.

            No they didn’t

They said it, you’re just ignorant of it and opinionated …

In a recent interview with The New York Times, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett conceded that the high court would be incapable of enforcing its own rulings if the Trump administration openly defied orders that interfered with the president’s political agenda.

“[T]he court lacks the power of the purse,” she told columnist Ross Douthat during an interview for his podcast. “We lack the power of the sword. And so, we interpret the Constitution, we draw on precedents, we have these questions of structure, and we make the most with the tools that we have.”

I couldn’t bake a cake this morning, because I didnt bother to put in the effort.

Biden couldn’t forgive student loans, because he didn’t bother to put in the effort.

        The damn game is rigged

No disagreement, just curious why you think a literal lifetime politician like Biden who in 2020 couldn’t shut up about wanting to work with Republicans again wasn’t one of the ones rigging it…
