I’m originally a St. Louis kid, but i live in Ohio now and it is frustrating seeing both states i consider my home get fucked over like this. Obviously the Republicans are going to try to screw over everyone, but it drives me nuts that the Democrats don’t put out ads ripping into the GOP for striking down ballot initiatives. It’s such an easy slam dunk, but they won’t do it.

I grew up stateside, but it blows anything we have in Ohio out of the water. Cleveland is the only city on the state that has am actual light rail, which functions ok (i did get stuck in the downtown station for 45 minutes due to a breakdown while we received zero information from anyone at the station. A lady had to call RTA to figure out what was going on while we sweat it out on a hot and crowded underground stop). Toledo and Elyria have an Amtrak station, Cincinnati has about 4 miles of streetcar rail downtown and a few bus lines, while Columbus only has buses for a metro population of over 2.2 million. Where i grew up, St. Louis, the city wanted to expand rail routes out to the suburbs, but the residents of the suburbs shut it down because the white residents were “worried about crime” coming into the suburbs from downtown. Our systems are absolutely fucked out here.

We aren’t just talking small towns though. Any city that isn’t New York, Chicago, or Boston might as well not have any rail service at all. Houston has 22.7 miles of passenger railway that is only located downtown. Columbus Ohio has a metro of 2.2 million people and doesn’t have a single inch of passenger rail. Cleveland has an OK system by American standards, which i use whenever i go to Cleveland, but the only option for me to take a train into Cleveland from where i live in NW Ohio would take an hour longer than just driving there outright.

Don’t be dogging on Newcastle Transport like that. My grandpa used to be able to get anywhere in the UK by walking to the North Shields station and hopping on the light rail for free to Newcastle station. Just because the southerns ruined their rail systems doesn’t mean the Geordies trashed theirs.

I live in a small town, so everyone at least knows who both judges in town are. 10 years ago one had a decent reputation, the other everyone hated because he was just a bully in the courtroom. He was suspended by the state for a year back in 2021 because he started harassing a woman at the back of the court room who was minding her own business, commenting about her brother who OD’ed the week before, and then held her in contempt of court for not submitting to a drug test.

Anyway, when his suspension was up he ran for his vacant seat to try and get his pension back. So I joyfully voted against that asshole and was very satisfied to see him get absolutely clobbered since everyone in town hated him.

Everyone knows that the current system is broken. Trunp has been saying that he will tear the system down while the Dems have been going on about how everything is actually great. People don’t care what the change is, they just want something different.

They are just Republicans that aren’t comfortable rounding up minorities into camps. They are cool if Republicans want to do it, but they are afraid of being associated with it for now

What do you think “warrentless arrests” means?

I’m not talking about Spanish workers retiring. I’m talking about English and German pensioners moving to Spain to retire. Spain and Greece have become to Florida and Arizona of Europe where they are stuck picking up the tab for people who never contributed to the local economy and are now draining it of resources. The only reason Greece meets their NATO obligations is because they are in an arms race with Turkey. It’s one thing to care for your elderly parents when they start to get older. It’s an entirely different matter when all of a sudden you are expected to care for some elderly couple that you have never met before.

Spain has to deal with millions of pensioners from across Europe retiring there. Germany was complaining anout the drag on it’s economy when hundreds of thousands of working age Syrians came into the county during the 2010’s. Spain has to spend billions of euros every year caring for residents who don’t work, need extra medical care, and displace actual working people. Their economy is incredibly weak as is, they can’t justify spending 3x what they currently are on their military.
