This politician is a tankie nutjob who happens to be a pro-palestinian activist.

She voted against every single EU resolution condemning Russia’s war on Ukraine.

She shared on social media a picture of a politician with this message :

“He is a friend of genociders. He sleeps well at night. That will not last long”

Then he received this message :

“I see your scared eyes in the halls of the European Parliament. You should be afraid. It’s just the beginning”

He ended up going to the police.

    https://www.franceinfo.fr/politique/la-france-insoumise/francois-xavier-bellamy-depose-plainte-contre-rima-hassan-apres-que-l-eurodeputee-lfi-a-profere-une-menace-a-son-encontre-dans-un-tweet_6686187.html

More recently, the French writer Boualem Sansal was jailed on bullshit charges in Algeria.

    https://www.pen-international.org/news/algeria-novelist-boualem-sansal-sentenced-to-five-years-in-prison

He did not have a fair trial. He didn’t even get access to a lawyer.

The European Parliament voted overwhelmingly to condemn his arrest and demand his release.

Rima Hassan was one of the only MEPs to vote against this resolution 🤦

    https://www.20minutes.fr/politique/4135328-20250124-inhumain-honte-vote-rima-hassan-liberation-sansal-fait-reagir-explique

One week ago, the EU Parliament issued a warning against her:

The President had decided to impose a penalty on Rima Hassan for having recorded during a plenary session a Member of the European Parliament without his consent, and having subsequently disseminated the video on her social media accounts, accompanied by a personal comment.

Her behaviour had harmed Parliament’s reputation and the principle of mutual respect among Members.

She was denied a visa to Canada after she was asked two questions

    1. Did any country ever deny you a visa? (Yes)

    2. Did you ever face lawsuits? (Yes)

Instead of answering the truth, she answered “No” to both questions.

In an online post, she argued she did that because “I think these questions aren’t legitimate”.

    That was a major mistake

Immigration Canada really doesn’t give a shit about what you think.

You should never lie on a federal immigration form. That’s called misrepresentation. Any foreigner who engages in misrepresentation will face denial of entry into Canada (Article 40, Canadian Law on Immigration).

When Immigration Canada discovered this, her visitor visa was automatically cancelled.

She crossed a line praising the Lod massacre perpetrators. It was not an attack on the IDF, it was an indiscriminate attack on random people in an airport.

That said, we live in an era where criminal and genocidal language is spewed by the leaders of Israel, the US, and other countries. If only the same high standards were applied to them too.

French here, I think the information is confirmed. A weird campain is led against this woman, and at that point I’d call it harrassment, especially after the far right ambush set-up that led to the even weirder death of a young neo-nazi militant (the local intelligence had been following them, the police was present and they let the fight happen…), which was blamed on her conference being held nearby.

The Nemesis collective was linked to it as a planner of said ambush that went haywire. That femonationalist collective was endorsed by a former right-wing minister of national security.

I really think it’s a sordid campain to undermine any french voice that would talk about the genocide in Gaza.

Because of the repetitive pattern of sham/shallow accusations which goal is only to give the collaborationist media more material for constant defamation (on her, but also on every leftist voice speaking against the genocide in Gaza and such, which is immediately tagged as “antisemitism” for easy silencing -it’s a globally used strategy, so nothing unfamiliar here, you’ve probably seen it used against many people who are raising their voice against Israel’s crimes against humanity, or their current expansion war -which they roped the USA into). For instance, she has been summoned by the police for her deleted tweet, and they “found” drugs in her purse, except 1- I won’t believe a person summoned to an appointment with the police can be stupid enough to BRING DRUGS in their purse (it was later denied by her lawyer anyway). 2- The info was leaked to collaborationist medias DURING the police custody, which is supposedly both impossible and illegal UNLESS the police themselves leaked something for the medias to gnaw on. And it’s always like that. As for the tweet that got her in “trouble”, it was okay according to international laws (relative to the right of an occupied/subjected to apartheid nation to bear arms to resist the occupant). So, yeah, in France, the collusion of the ultra-rich and far-right media is established, so much so that most people don’t even listen to them anymore. Whatever the country you’re from, the fascists have the same modus operandi, so if you hear corporate media say something and the story is too good to be true, then assume it’s simply no true, especially during war.

Israel is the West’s last great colonial settler project so there has always been a predilection to turning a blind eye to international law in relation their geopolitical affairs. Far right authoritarians are often chummy with Netanyahu because he is living their colonial dream of genocide and displacement.

Why do they control what people say? I’m not sure it goes that far. But the cultural bias apparently runs deep enough in the West to ruin people’s lives over it if they dissent.

Violemtly and vehemently. All of the heavy hitters. Who in the west stands opposed? Maybe a tepid Spain? A few hundred years removed from relevance?

Depends on the timeline you’re looking at. Some western countries have calibrated their stance in recent years particularly.

It’s actually one of the positives of social media. Even just five to ten years ago Western media acted as a shield against truth, helping to promote dogmatic support for Israel even as it committed genocide.

Canada doesn’t really belong on this list, it has been fairly clearly pro Israel throughout most of the 21st century and before that.

Ireland has a unique experience with settler colonialism so tends to have a more balanced take amongst Western countries. More of a specific exception than the rule though.

Spain is somewhere in between but also an exception.

When I say the West I do mean more generally the majority of or the power centers within. Which would be the British empire (which created this mess) and its successor the American empire (which allows it to continue).

I’d also draw a distinction between the West in general and the Global South which, having borne the historical brunt of Western colonial genocide, displacement and theft, has been pro Palestinian throughout most of this conflict and didn’t need social media to see the reality of the situation.

Absolutely not. Zionists have a lot of money, but most of those Zionists are not in fact Jews. Western imperialists see their interests aligning with Israel, so they support it with money and influence; it’s really that simple. Thinking Israel controls the West is like thinking the hammer controls the carpenter because he doesn’t want it stolen.

      https://www.reuters.com/world/french-far-left-member-european-parliament-rima-hassan-held-police-custody-2026-04-02/

Rima Hassan, a French far-left member of the European Parliament, was arrested on Thursday over a ‌comment she posted on X last month about an attack on an Israeli airport in the 1970s, her fellow party member Jean-Luc Melenchon said.

The message was related to the 1972 attack by the Japanese Red Army far-left militant group at Lod airport in Tel Aviv, which resulted in 26 deaths.

It seems the media may not know what her exact comment was yet.

I mean, how many civilians are the IDF shooting in Gaza per day now? Especially with their new execution law?

Because we can still stop tomorrow’s deaths in Gaza, technically.

The perpetrators are still effectively the same people who committed the crime.

The terrorists of 50 yo are likely already dead, the entire topology of their cause changed. It is pointless.
