I mean, what more can one elected official do to convince the Democratic Party that he embodies the figurative representation of a vagina?

I’ve met Walz a few times, I think he’s a pretty decent person. So of course he has no home in politics. Only evil, unscrupulous people survive in politics these days.

Our government is illegitimate, it desperately needs to just collapse.

      That’s the problem

Decent people won’t survive long in US politics, even though it so desperately needs them

We can only hope that the unavoidable incompetence collapse is soon

They never should have reined him in. That and calling Republicans “weird”, but then again tell me one thing that has transpired since the election that isn’t in the interests of wealthy Democratic Party donors.

One “scandal” and he resigns drops out. Reminds me of Al Franken. The best ones with actual principles fall on the sword. I’m not super opposed so long as the replacement Democrat candidate still wins I guess. But whoever that is will likely be further right which sucks.

I honestly think he dropped the ball on this fraud story. I’m still piecing together all the facts but the minute this story broke he should have been all over it.

A lot of the misinformation is coming from people that don’t even live in the state and he could have used this as an opportunity to make the job market a little better for his constituents by actually going after some of the fraud that IS happening and making statements about it.

A lot of the stuff I’m seeing I don’t even know if it’s true or not but it looks REALLY bad on Minnesota.

I mean, I understand that it was his office that implemented the program. There are video clips from when he was running for vice president where he’s bragging on the program and saying it could be implemented across the whole US. I’m not saying he was in on the fraud, but I don’t know how easily he really could have gotten around being the fall guy here. He owned it, he had to go down.

Did he? By the time the fraud became national news it was already dismantled and most of the people involved were already prosecuted. He just rolled over and let trump make shit up with little pushback.

Exactly. He really didn’t seem to know what was going on when he made that initial statement. He should have gotten with his DA and gotten some information about how most of the cases were already prosecuted and this was a non-issue. He already should have had investigators at some of these places Nick Shirley went to either clear them of wrong doing or shut them down.

Really disappointed. Walz and his family have been subject of an ugly, horrible, and xenophobic smear campaign and he’s a good strong leader that I really admire. I hope that this isn’t the end of his career in politics.

I agree that it’s unfortunate he’s not running, but smear campaign? Unless I missed something, I thought there was no dispute that a massive crime was being committed on his watch. In my opinion, it’s pretty negligent to not even check if there are kids in the childcare facilities that are getting funding. One inspection at funding renewal time would have been doable.

How much do you want to bet that tightening licenses for childcare providers is a nonstarter for republicans because it would mean shutting down virtually all church-based childcare centers?

If they were going to reform it in any way would be more like this.

“You know having this assistance for only poor people is actually discrimination, we must offer this money to all people who have to pay for child care regardless of income”

If you want proof of this, take a look at North Carolina School voucher system, Republicans remove the income cap so now no matter how much you make if your kid is in private school you can get a voucher.

Same for Iowa, and in response the private schools conveniently raised prices by the voucher amount so they make even more and still keep out the poor. Win win for them and the gop

The first part I’m not against, means-testing benefit programs makes them more susceptible to being destroyed through small cuts here and there because not everyone benefits in the first place. If democrats actually wanted to win, they could respond with “we shouldn’t discriminate, let’s make the benefit universal, you just need to use a childcare center who accepts our rate.”

Is there actually any evidence of a “massive crime being committed” other than a right-wing youtube video?

The department had not confirmed Shirley’s allegations of fraud at the time of this writing, nor could Snopes independently verify the figures his report used. Snopes also could not independently verify Shirley’s claims that the daycares committing fraud were run or owned by Somali Americans. https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/12/30/nick-shirley-minnesota-daycare-fraud/

And, even starting on the assumption that this fraud was happening, why on Earth would that be Tim Walz fault? Is anyone claiming that he was in on it somehow? Was he running a fraudulent daycare? Or are gonna pretend like he’s to blame for something happening “on his watch” as if he’s some kind of omniscient deity?

It’s not the Governors job to prosecute crimes, let alone somehow prevent them from happening in the first place.

If a massive fraud was being committed, it would be up to the Minnesota or US AG to prosecute based on available evidence.

Her two biggest agendas are making sure every Palestinian on Earth is myrdered and bird law. Why why why the fuck do people on this state listen to this fucking ghoul?? She has the political instincts of a fucking washcloth. I was at his launch rally and almost booed when she went up to speak. She probably couldn’t fucking wait to sabotage that progressive shit as soon as she could, without putting nothing across her own fucking chest of fucking course. FUCK AMY KLOBUCHAR!!!

Thinking about it, it’s probably not a terrible move on his part, overall. Dems can probably retain the governorship and this frees him to do other things. His replacement is probably worse, but it’s not like he’s retiring (although with how awful people are to him and his family, taking a break might be a good personal move… he has compassion and the attacks on his family probably really hurt).

It was fucking benign back then too. Democrats just have no will to fight, and would rather SaVe ThE dIgNiTy Of ThE pArTy and resign instead of actually pushing back against republican smear campaigns.

Because R doesn’t care about jack shit, but if you run a D campaign it’s purity tests all the way down. If he said the wrong thing about Tibet he’s fucked, because the “big tent” on the left is fucking stupid and self-cannibalizing.

I’m convinced 10% of the left “tent” is saboteurs screaming these purity tests and 90% of the real left are afraid of looking racist / sexist / whatever, so they go along with stuff they know is bullshit but are scared to say.

Meanwhile, the right then uses those cases to smear and discredit the left.

A fucking pedo lunatic is running the country the only purity test I want to see is are you ready to fucking stand up for people and fight?
