Because once the shutdown begins, everyone on Lemmy thinks that Democrats agreeing to open the government back up without any real concessions is a crime against humanity.

It also means if shutting the government down could result in you losing favor, then it is better to just agree to whatever BS is necessary to keep the government open.

Government shutdowns have historically never worked. All you can expect is to gain favor with the voters next cycle.
