We should use AI and VR to build a life simulator for psychopaths and narcissists then hand it to Trump, Elon, Zuck, etc so they can keep doing what they're doing without actually affecting us

Maybe that is what is happening and you are an NPC.

How could I be an NPC if I’m “playing” myself?

I think the idea was that this is the simulation you outlined and so if you are not ‘Trump, Elon, Zuck etc’ then you aren’t playing, you are a bot.

People made mods with NPCs powered by LLMs

I’ve never tried them, the quality is probably questionable at best, but I don’t think those guys will notice a difference

I don’t think we can build anything better than the state of the art simulator that President Elon already favours.

Why would they do it in VR if they can do it in real life?

Then they just hijack the mental health industry and send all the mentally ill people to concentration camps. These are the same people who want to "de-"nazify Ukraine; words mean nothing to them.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned the Star Trek the Next Generation episode where Moriarty tries to escape the holodeck and they basically put him on a flash drive running a simulation of the galaxy to solve the problem.

Oh look, a Culture ship Mind.

“There was no crime in the Culture, not really. Not because people were punished—there were no punishments, as such—but because nobody wanted to commit crimes. Or if they did, there were outlets, safe simulations that hurt no one.”

Sure. Send them to personalized matrix heaven.

You don’t even have to trick them into it. Just tell them it’s really cool and they should just try it out and then they put on the vr helmet and they’re gone.

You could even do a simulated vr-exit to alleviate any doubt and shame.

A “Showerthought” is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you’re doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

  • Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
  • When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
  • More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as “capitalism” and “communism”. If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy’s Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
