The man admired by many Spaniards as the finest bullfighter ever seen is recovering in hospital after being gored by a bull during his comeback from retirement.
José Antonio Morante, more commonly known by his matador’s moniker Morante de la Puebla, suffered the injury on Sunday, while bullfighting in Seville. Video footage showed him being lifted off his feet as the bull’s horn punctured his buttock, before colleagues drew the animal away from him by distracting it with their capes.
After initially being in a very serious condition with the 10-centimetre wound, which perforated his rectum, Morante is now recovering.
Good
“It was the most painful goring I have ever suffered in my career,” he told El Mundo newspaper from his hospital bed. “I felt enormous pain and I was very scared because I could tell that the bull had gored me and I thought I was bleeding a lot.”
Perspective switch
I am amazed how one can use these words while being totally oblivious to the feelings of pain and being scared that the animals go through.
You’re not murdering animals for entertainment if you feel things like empathy or shame.
Today he learned being poked by sharp things hurts
In Spain these guys will actually kill the bull in the Arena (hence the name “matador” - literally “killer”), so this is only fair.
PS: Mind you, not that “just” the part of torturing of the bull (the only part done in Portugal) is much better.

Get rekt!
I love the photo. That horn looks like it’s getting a full tour of that fucker’s Spanish colony.
Good
awww. poor guy. Maybe next time he shouldn’t have participated in the torture of a live animal.
When you kill animals for sport, you can’t be upset when the other team shows up.
its only fair the animal responds in kind.

ay yi yi
My new meme template
“…bull in comeback from retirement” Sounds like the comeback was successful :P
(Is there a c/ for ambiguous headlines?)
I’m glad that my community in Spain doesn’t permit this animal abuse anymore.
Are you in Canarias? Because in Catalonia, where it was banned, the constitutional court reversed the ban as punishment for the independence movement (while leaving the canaries ban standing, clear double standard). So it’s sadly not officially banned in Catalonia any more, but of course no corridas actually happen as they’d get no money from the Generalitat.
So soon after a millionaire was stomped into paste by elephants?
I think things are actually getting better.
Nature is healing.
Harambe has risen.
My favorite is still the killer whales capsizing rich people’s sailboats. Although that would have been even better if the orcas had eaten the free snacks.
Nature is healing
trampled, elephants also use thier gigantic heads to try to smush you too. there was another story where an african woman was harrassing/killed an elephant the whole herd came to her funeral area, when she died of natural causes, and wrecked the whole funeral and destroyed her grave area.
- That was in India.
- She wasn’t harassing or killing elephants.
- The elephant attacking her was what killed her, not “natural causes”.
You’re trying to turn that story into something its not and paint that woman as evil when she was just going about her day. Sometimes wild animals just do crazy shit.
Spaniard here.
Bullfighting is nowadays extremely niche of the extreme right wind retards. No normal perdon liked it, let alone knows the name of that arschloch.
We are happy the bull managed to win a small fight.
the spanaird gored the fool.
Man, I love the EU.
Spaniard here
German username and uses the word Arschloch
English comment
This is the world I want to live in!
Plus, his username is “ich will hier raus”, lol
I’m glad to hear this—hopefully it will be completely gone soon.
That was all well and good, but I was hoping it was the video if the matadors asshole getting reemed by the bull and not a live concert song in spanish that’s apparently anti bull fighting.
The video is all over the net … here ya go friend.

The point I was trying to make was that we’ve been protesting it since the 90’s and it’s almost extinct.
Yeah. I heard damned near everyone is against it there.
Given how the bulls are treated prior to the bullfighting … good!
And afterwards. And During.
This brings me joy. I hope the bull is alright.

admired by many Spaniards
Sorry but no. Bullfighting is actually very unpopular in Spain. It’s a relic of the past that’s kept on life support by conservative politics.
Very happy to hear he has been gored by the bull. Couldn’t have happened to a worse person. And this is always the reaction of pretty much everyone I know whenever this happens
Last line:
A poll taken last year by the BBVA Foundation found 77 per cent of Spaniards found the pastime “unacceptable”.
pastime
Really? I think these events could be memorialized as a sort of messed up cultural thing to look back upon, but using such a banal word for it feels pretty odd in its own right
Yeah, people don’t often realize the bull is literally being tortured by getting stabbed. Then it’s eventually killed. I mean if you’re killing animals for food do it as humane as possible, but for a show? No.
Super hot take time: giving the bull a chance to go out swining isn’t that much worse than having it put down ”humanely” in a factory, spending it’s last time in a line that reeks of blood.
The real crime is against entertainment. Who am I supposed do be rooting for here? Apparently not the underdog that’s outnumbered and surrounded by a bunch of dirty spaniards with swords and near zero chance of winning.
Who watches this? Seriously!
I suppose ‘many’ is a relative term. As a pure number of people I’m sure there are tens of thousands of Spaniards who love the ‘sport’. But as a percentage of the population, yeah you’re right - the large majority think it’s stupid and want it gone.
Of course it’s “technically” correct, but I’m a bit tired of Spain being known for bullfighting and people not realizing that it’s actually very unpopular here.
Like also tourist shops in Barcelona still sell bullfighting related articles, even if corridas were actually legally banned for many years in Catalonia (ban reversed by the conservative constitutional court years later). It just shows that this shit is still something people think about when thinking of Spain
To a worse person? I can think the president of certain centric community that’s very pro-bullfighting and directly responsible for killing thousands of grandpas…
It’s just a phrase. For positive stuff you say “couldn’t have happened to a better/nicer person” so that’s the opposite. I can think of quite few worse people that’d deserve to be gored by a bull
I wasn’t aware of that. Thank you for sharing.
