The California governor acknowledged in an interview Sunday on CBS that he would give the question serious thought after the 2026 elections.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any good contenders.

The Illinois governor, Pritzker is a fantastic alternative.

Of course the best choice for a nationality known candidate would be AOC, but she also had the GOP attack dogs on her for close to a decade.

        He’s doing a decent job.
He should stay where he is needed.

Newsom would be absolutely horrible for our country

It’s been less than a year since he started his podcast with Charlie Kirk and fawned over hi, then had Steve Bannon a few weeks later and treated him the same.

Newsom isn’t on our side, he’s just saying what his team of PR people tell him to say. There’s a very good chance if he loses the primary he pulls a Cuomo/RFK Jr.

Everyone else the billionaire owned media wants you to see.

There’s some good things happening all over, lots of people at the state level putting in work and gaining ground back.

But if CNN talked about them, Newsom would look like an angry bully like when he joined up with Charlie Kirk to shit on anyone who’s lgbt

I’m seeing a lot of propaganda for him

Remember. The democratic party is corrupt.

We not only are fighting fascist maga here. We are fighting the whole system that has allowed fascism to rise.

80% of the democratic party is corrupt and they need voted out. I don’t care how good looking they are. I don’t care how entertaining they are. I don’t care if they troll Trump or not.

    Idgaf about posturing.

What I care about is if they are bought.
    And newsome is bought.

Israel and big corp owns him. He does not work for the people. He works to enrich his own wealth.

The only people who can fix this country are people like AOC and Bernie. And a few other Dems who don’t take corporate pac money.

    Vote wisely.

Otherwise things will continue to get worse. We need big changes. Not someone willing to placate the people just barely enough so they stop demanding change.

Otherwise in 10 years we will be in even worse off than now.

Keep your eyes on the goal. Don’t be swayed by clever messages. Or good looking men pretending to be super heros.

Look at the facts. Look at who pays him.

He does not work for the people.

I would love for a fairytale ending where AOC takes it in a landslide but I think anyone pretending a dark skinned minority woman can win in this climate might just be brain dead.

I me a if magically she wins the primaries by a landslide great, but she won’t, and worse yet, unlike Mamdani who is fighting uphill both ways, she’s not nearly as sharp on her feet and she can’t promise as much as he has because without a senate majority you just can’t make that much change in the USA.

More than that, she would have to work with the other democrats who obviously are center right, so pushing through progressive policies would be extremely difficult.

You also have to remmebr that the billionaires that control ad spend wouldn’t be spending very much on her, and let me put it this way, Lemmy is a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the reach the platforms they own have.

These are the realities I feel many hyper online leftists don’t want to acknowledge.

Given the realities, Newsom is the most solid choice to put out the immediate fire that I’ve seen floated so far.

Can you guys who don’t like the idea elaborate?

I’ve seen Newsome as generally a good leader. He did fuch up a few times with treating the homeless. However, here is why I would vote for the guy:

1)Better than a rotten sack of potatoes. 2)Does talk and move like a real person. 3)Has generally improved California… And here’s the thing Republicans might like, there are still poor people in California and they’re mostly brown! Don’t you guys want that? 4)He helped the California economy grow during a tough time and did not bankrupt a casino in Las Vegas!

That said I would vote AOC at the drop of a hat because she’s a woman and I want a first woman president to happen. Additionally, she’s smart and has been on the side of the people. As an example she has not shot any of her dogs. Bernie, who I would also love as president, even now, supports her. AOC is a name all are familiar with. But perhaps we need to compromise so we can get the lunatics out…how about another sane white guy? I know a couple of white people in my community, I’m sure many of us know a white guy or two. Whoever it is, we need to figure it out soon so that we all vote for just that one gu…oh right, we don’t have a say in the presidential election. I forgot that its actually a bunch of randoes who vote for us…we’re totally unsmart regarding this way of electing.

Honey! You want pizza or pad Thai? Tell these 50 rando people what you want and they will certainly get you what you want after they vote for it. Don’t worry, they’re on your side! In the history of us being married they’ve chosen almost always exactly as most of us would have chosen our beans! So they’re perfect! Here are your beans.

Yeah I’m gonna need a higher bar than not potatoes. I don’t know how many times I can be expected to vote for “barely not a republican” consecutively but we’ve definitely passed that point. Clearly voting for the candidate that’s a Democrat and slightly better than potatoes hadn’t worked… like at all. I’m so tired of “Vote Blue No Matter Who (unless the blue candidate is to the left of Schumer and co. then they’re basically Hamas)”

      Key issues:

      • Newsom is in bed with fossil fuel industry lobbyists. He’ll take environmental action only so long as it does not fundamentally put their business at risk, and we need to actually shut it down
      • hes perfectly happy to throw trans people under the bus (as on his podcast with the late Kirk)

These mean I will prefer another candidate in the primaries

Stop. Just fucking stop. We should absolutely have had women be President by now and that is a valid desire. But it is not a good basis on it’s own to decide your vote. Be more discerning.

Additionally, she’s smart and has been on the side of the people.

These are good bases for deciding your vote. Policy, ethics, character, competence, intelligence, etc. These are reasons to vote for AOC. She is a good choice in all those regards. These should be your first reasons, not her vagina.

As an example she has not shot any of her dogs.

Again, stop. AOC is a good choice on her own merit, not just in juxtaposition to the craziest crazies of the right. If you set the bar at being “Not Trump” or “Not Kristi Noem” or not whoever, that’s where people get the idea that your candidate has nothing else to offer.

Assuming we get another election, if it ends up coming down to Newsom v Trump, or Vance, or whatever GOP goon builds enough of a following after Trump kicks it, he’ll almost certainly have my vote because the alternative is insanity. But Newsom is a classic neo-liberal pro-capitalist, anti-homeless opportunist. He only looks good next to Trump. On his own, he’s a greasy sleezeball classic politician. If we want real change, we need a true progressive.

Men and their dick insecurities are a big problem in politics. We need more women.

Men had their chance. Look at what they have done.

We need women who prioritize taking care of others over their own ego. Can’t say I know of very many male politicians who are like that. But a lot of women are.

AOC. She’s what we need. She’s not bought. She’s not corrupt. She’s never raped anyone.

Let’s vote for the best option. She’s it.

But regardless, she is a woman. I hope she does good by her people and gives us an example to follow. The biggest party in the parliament, or a coalition, pick the prime minister. I’m pretty sure this one was from a coalition, and she was the leader of her party, and her party was the bigger of the coalition. Members of parliament do get elected into it by the people, who vote for a person and/or for a list. They didn’t pick her to be leader of the party, but they voted for the people in the party that she recently became leader of.

You people are literally hurting people who did not sign up to be hurt. Why do you think your idealistic purity politics matter more than other people’s lives???

Liberals in general don’t give a fuck about who’s getting hurt, their concern lies in who’s doing the hurting. Marginalized communities remain marginalized regardless of who’s in office, their material conditions do not improve and often get worse. Your party supports marginalized communities as far as using them as background filler while the old white people speak for them, and when they try to speak for themselves they are silenced with shouts of ‘Im speaking.’

Liberals in general don’t give a fuck about who’s getting hurt, their concern lies in who’s doing the hurting.

Heres the thing about the chronically online “leftist” viewpoints.

They all seem to come from a place of feeling superior while doing nothing or worse.

What are the actions of these people you hate, Im assuming to mean pragmatical leftists and liberals both of whom don’t want hitler 2.0: Electric Bugaloo?

They tried to support it not happening and are now the ones actually doing anything whatsoever. They are the senators, mayors, running obstruction and to a lesser extent people out protesting.

Instead, you’re there focusing on criticizing, not the people doing the harm, but the people trying to stop it, for not perfectly aligning with you policy wise before in the election where you tacitly voted for the horrendous shit happening right now.

Marginalized communities remain marginalized regardless of who’s in office

Guess what? You can’t get your magic one day revolution. Changing the status of people takes a really long fucking time in such a system. Those are the facts of the system. You can sit it out and pout that it magically doesnt happen, or realize the system is what it is, and then do something within it or about it, rather than waxing lyrical about it online, dumping on the people who do.

The fact is, when the democrats, a center to center right party do not have a senate majority, there is very little they can do that isnt purse control, but you know what happens when they’re in power? Marginalized people do better, and see better outcomes and lives.

Expecting a whole new world is just naivety

Your party supports marginalized communities as far as using them as background filler while the old white people speak for them

Ah yes, all the outspoken POC people in the democrat party are secretly white people, and the 85% or higher number of black people voting for them have no voices.

Your entire attitude is just one that does not care about marginalized people past using them as ammunition for the people closest in political goals to you.

Some people have the same political goals to you and you still rant about them because they aren’t being idealistic do nothings.

Wake up! Enough of these purity tests. We need someone, ANYONE, who can win an election at this point. Perfect or not, we need a winner. Any Democrat would be a win at this point.

The conservatives accept anyone who agrees with even one issue and then says, “We’ll work on the rest of the stuff, but you’re welcome on our side.” While the left says, “Unless you are perfectly clean of any and all past discrepancies, then you are not allowed here.”

I know I’m going to get downvoted to hell and back for this too. If Newsom is willing to fight MAGA and no one else is, then I’d vote for him. I don’t want a heartless, transphobic president either, but perfect is the enemy of good. MAGA is destroying this country day-by-day. The search for an ideal candidate will result in President JD Vance.

Purity test to liberal is what woke is to Republicans, it’s a bs tagline to things they ain’t want to hear. If liberals kept their candidates to any kind of standard, we wouldn’t have someone like Trump in office. If liberals help their people accountable, we wouldn’t have a potential JD Vance as next president.

It might be easy for you if you came to terms that many of us them at are vocal against the entire system are not Democrats, so we don’t vote for or support Democrats. Your desire for ‘ANYONE who can win’ is how we got to where we are, you’re willing to accept anything with a D in front of their name regardless of what they’ve done and who they are. And when we point out what they’ve done liberals scream purity test.

I could give you a magic button that removes any and all traces of MAGA from the US, but American fascism would eventually fester again under a new name. American fascism is the only logical conclusion to a country that was founded solely by 20-something, white, enslaving, rich, male landowners. You blue maga types are not at all opposed to the death and destruction that the US has carried out outwardly for the past 200 years - you just care all of a sudden now that the violence has been pointed inwards and your brunch has been interrupted. Blue maga is not about addressing the contradictions that allow fascism to fester, but just about reclaiming American patriotism. MAGA is not the enemy. Capitalism is. And until you obtain revolutionary politics, youre doomed to keep descending into fascism until the cows come home.

They somehow think they are better than the only people actually trying to put out the fire because firefighting is dirty work and their hands aren’t dirty.

Democrats are not trying to put out the fire, they won’t even acknowledge the fire exists as long as it’s their team burning society to the ground.

You are not on our side, Democrats are not even remoting like leftists. You claim to want to fight MAGA and the billionaire capitalist class while simultaneously supporting the billionaire capitalist class that also finds Democrats. Democrats like yourself don’t want to change the system you want to reform it into something that won’t disrupt your brunch. Liberals don’t mind deportations as long as they dont hear about it. They don’t mind ICE as long as they don’t hear about it.

                  This is just foolishness.

Its completely childish to pretend that if you ignore the current system, it will ignore you.

That is what you are saying they should do, rather than realize a magic uprising will not come, and change is slow and laborious as opposed to fashionable, pithy, snarky phrasing.

Thats the reality the other person understands and you fail to.

You literally cannot reform the system if you hand republicans wins like you have.

Reform is a very very long ways away, and is slowed down every time the democrats lose, and therefore shift even further right.

                  You have it all backwards.

The very first sentence is an insane line of reasoning considering that woke still has its meaning from the civil rights era to republicans, and they’re just that bigoted whereas purity test is asking people to not be immature naive children getting other people killed by their idealism.

To say that liberals don’t keep their candidates to any type of standards when liberals are the only party that has top people resigning after controversies errupt is brain dead idealism.

You saying you don’t vote for or support democrats means you hate trans people, black people, Latino people, and all the other people who are being severely harmed by your childish inability to see nuance and accept pragmatism over fairytale idealism.

When it comes down to brass tacks Democrats don’t support those marginalized communities anymore than Republicans. They use them as human shields to defend their shitty policies and use it to silence dissent that’s harming everyone, they use them as background filler to give the illusion of inclusion, inclusion is not liberation.

If Democrats cared about Latinos they would have pushed back against their party when Biden pushed for the largest expansion of detention centers and the highest increase of federal funding they’ve ever received. Biden laid the ground work for what Trump is currently doing.

What you call pragmatism is lazy and causes more harm than you think you are doing.

When it comes down to the brass tacks???

Who the hell do you think is supporting marginalized people having the voter protections that everyone else gets?

Who do you think supports them not being discriminated against or even bothering to run studies on this information?

Who do you think are the people working to improve programs that often are mostly aimed at them, through a federal government that currently is basically gridlocked and only allows the controlling parties control over the purse in essence?

              Your statement is baseless bothsiderism.

Once again, the republicans are literally actively discriminating against them, disappearing them off the street, doing forced sterilizations, and more.

Dafuq you mean they don’t support them more?

Back up that statement, because I’m not seeing it.

If Democrats cared about Latinos they would have pushed back against their party when Biden pushed for the largest expansion of detention centers and the highest increase of federal funding they’ve ever received. Biden laid the ground work for what Trump is currently doing.

Do you know what nuance is?

Do you know why democrats were doing that? Because people such as yourself seemed even less reachable to them than the morons and bigots that voted trump in. That was an attempt to compromise. A misguided attempt thinking that they would respond to facts and numbers.

Biden laid the ground work for what Trump is currently doing.

No he fucking didn’t. ICE is raiding primary schools and hiring like a silicon valley blitz scaling startup.

You only look for attempts at gotchas because you don’t actually give a fuck about other people. You just want to feel right when making the world worse, pretending there is somehow any practical plan for the democrats to go from zero to hero in a day.

You ignore the real steps to achieving your goals, because it doesnt allow you to gloat while hurting other people, and its slow, unfun, and involves supporting people you feel are mid; you know, the things the actual leftists do gritting their teeth because they look up facts and don’t say absurd shit like

When it comes down to brass tacks Democrats don’t support those marginalized communities anymore than Republicans. They use them as human shields to defend their shitty policies and use it to silence dissent that’s harming everyone

You are so fucking far from your goal its a farce that you keep acting like there are direct steps towards it.

I want to live in Startrek as much as the next person, but that is not happening within my lifetime, or the lifetime of anyone born right now.

If only you and that same energy for holding your party accountable we wouldn’t have had a senile pedo as president and an installed, like a monarchist, as first runner up when he bowed out. If liberals had listened to socialists and communists in 2016 there would have never been a trump problem. But instead of looking at the bigger picture they focused on ‘first woman president’

Its interesting all of the so called “socialists” when their faux beliefs are called out in detail, just bark the same thing that has just been disproven, and pretend that if only exactly the platform of their dreams were run, in a sperical cow friction-less universe that doesnt exist, everything would be hunky dory.

Unfortunately we live in a real world with real constraints. The real world had what it had, and you chose to not participate, or even worse, support the bad guys because you didn’t get your way.

You’re attempted gotchas continue to be a way from you diverting from the fact you have absolutely no rebuttals for any of the many reasons that your core arguments don’t work or criticisms of your rhetoric.

I hope he doesn’t. He’d be more of the same, pre-tRump. We don’t need more of the same; we need very successful new. And very left, non-maggot new.

None of that’s going to happen until people abandoned the oligarchy. Propping up the newest defender of the status quo will keep us locked in the status quo.
