Hmm, isn’t scent one of those senses tied closely to memory and is permeable to a mattress?

Also, at OP, cleaning wouldn’t be too difficult. Lift mattress, apply vacuum hose.

Many double mattresses are super unwieldy and heavy. You try to lift them, they just end up bending from one side, super annoying. your waist also does not thank you after this process.

just keep a bunch of cardboard boxes from deliveries under the bed instead, then you can just throw them away when they get dirty

        Exactly this.

I had the bed in OPs meme and it was great at first! My cats loved it, they zoomed through day and night. Then one day I noticed only one of the cats would enter at a time and only while I wasn’t looking. Eventually I found out one of our cats was holding politically extreme meetings under the bed which eventually resulted in an attempted coup d’etat.

Anyways, great bed. My cats run my house now and I get to sleep under the bed in a cool maze!

Traditional mattresses need to be rotated/flipped anyway. Also, it’s a good idea to clean under the bed occasionally.

Some beds have storage underneath. They have a lift mechanism that lifts the whole mattress. If you used one of those as a base, then cleaning gets a lot easier.

I have a bed similar to this, and it just gets a little dusty. I don’t think I’ve actually cleaned it in a decade, and at most there’s just a very faint layer of dust (I just checked) in one or two spots. What are you doing that a mostly sealed area is getting dirty?

Before attempting such things (with or without this crazy setup), it is best to block all escapes/hiding spots, like closing a door to a room with these risks.
