Of course! Because we all know that China is perfect and humble and they never make mistakes, they’ve never once committed any crimes, they’d never ever do anything bad and they most definitely have the right to just take pand where and when they want and if you disagree, they’d definitely not disappear you…
It’s so funny to see you hate so much on the US, and rightfully so, yet just lap up all the Chinese propaganda as if it’s soup.
Nobody says China is perfect, just that western perceptions are comically off-base and that the US Empire is indeed far, far worse while China is actively improving.
Of course! That’s totally what the meme say as we can all see and definitely not a straw-man you made up in your head. Clearly the peoples saying that think that China is perfect and can do no wrong as you can see from… erm… from… From somewhere, I don’t have example but I’m sure you can definitely totally undoubtedly find an example somewhere.
It’s so funny how the only way you can think of to defend your ridiculous 1984 tech-dystopia narrative about China from criticism is to make a straw-man so you can pretend that our criticism of your narrative is the more ridiculous and over-the-top of the two.
really living the meme there
That’s unironically how I became an ML: by applying uniformly the standards and values liberals profess to hold.
Yellow Peril has defined the West for centuries. It is so ingrained and normalized that most aren’t aware of their own racism.
I lived in Shanghai from 2012-2018.
All governments are authoritarian, some things the Chinese government does is bad and some things are good. They do more for their people than the US government but it’s not a paradise by any means.
Xinjiang Ren are definitely persicuted but in Shanghai it felt similar to how black people are treated in the US. Different, but similar. I don’t know about genocide so I won’t speak to it but I heard they felt they were being heavily survailed.
Living in China has its challenges but there were things to like to. It’s fair to say the ccp are better global actors in the past century than the US.
There isn’t really free speech in China. With Cia funded color revolutions being a thing I’m beginning to doubt if countries can afford being open and liberal without an existential threat looming, but that’s a dialectic for another time.
US is definitely worse. The main reason I moved back is my Chinese sucks and they were becoming more insular so it was harder to find work. Also the pollution and the crowds and abrasive culture were wearing me down. But I got a tooth removed for about $50 there. In the US with insurance I’d be out of pocket a couple hundred. Scam of a country we have.
Instead of: Of course they’re going to say they like their government, otherwise they’ll be punished
Say: I am a western chauvinist who thinks people in the global south lack agency
Idk, but Chinese goverment is actively trying to censor people using gfw.
I don’t hate China, but Chinese government is crazy.
Every government censors, China focuses on limiting the speech of capitalists.
Okay, but they also try to censor everything related to 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre. How do you explain this?
They don’t, though. In China, they call it the “June 4th incident,” and acknowledge that hundreds died around Beijing that day in conflicts between rioters firebombing the PLA and the PLA’s response. What the CPC censors is the now disproven western reporting of thousands dying, and the idea of the square itself having a massacre. Even Wikipedia backs that the square was dispersed bloodlessly. This gets twisted by western media into “censoring the massacre,” when in reality it’s censoring western misinformation meant to delegitimize China’s government.
In fact, there was even a whole TV program on the incident broadcast in China https://web.archive.org/web/20200604205421/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDMXV1smwR0
Oh, nice find!
Huh, that completely changed my view on this. I’ll research a bit more myself. Tysm!
It’s always nice seeing peoples willing to hear out a different perspective on those controversial issues instead of instantly clutching their pearls and not listening. We don’t see it often but it’s always a pleasure when it happen. All power to you friend
.No problem! If you want a place to start for a Chinese perspective, I recommend this resource list.
Did you know: unlike china, piefed has jorjor well 1984 social credit score
wdym? Are you talking about Karma?
and I don’t know what ML means…
PieFed tracks how you interact and has scores for people, called “attitude” and “reputation.” These impact what you can do.
ML stands for Marxist-Leninist.
PieFed tracks how you interact and has scores for people, called “attitude” and “reputation.” These impact what you can do.
wtf??? why do they have that…
also thanks for the ML explanation
That’s part of why I prefer Lemmy, it’s more reasonable when it comes to things like that (as in, that doesn’t exist). No problem on the ML question.
