Venezuela and Canada have similar oil. Trump will use Venezuela to economically stifle Canada even worse.

There are at least two reasons U.S. oil producers may not move quickly on Venezuela’s vast oil reserves: price and certainty. Even before the weekend’s drama, American companies were pessimistic, according to a December survey by the Dallas Federal Reserve, with some noting a lack of clarity about America’s economic outlook and low prices that make it uneconomical to operate certain wells.
Political uncertainty too.
when that oil hits the market, it will tank the Texas Permian basin.
That’s the weird part of this all. The US is now the #1 exporter of crude oil. Lowering crude prices is generally not in the interests of America. Obviously there are some winners and some losers, but it’s a huge risk for a relatively neutral end result
Then again, I would have said the exact same thing about importing Argentinian beef, and Trump still did that. Fucked over the ranchers, but capital markets profited a lot
