He should claim that his contract is specifically with the “Kennedy Center” and not the “Trump Kennedy Center”.

They did such a hack job with the naming that the building says: “The Donald Trump and the John F Kennedy Memorial center for the performing arts.” And Donald Trump is in a different font.

By the way shouldn’t a memorial center be named after dead people? Isn’t that what the “memorial” stands for? Last time I checked Trump is still alive, barely alive, but alive.

In thought the same, but I guess it’s a memorial for Kennedy, and Trump just as… Nothing?

It’s a hack for sure. Can’t imagine being so childish

The center should actually sue the administration for changing their name and causing a loss in revenue.

So MAGA doctors can refuse medical treatment to patients they disagree with, but artists can be forced to perform agaist their will?

Jesus tap dancing christ, these people are the dumbest, childish, selfish fucks i have ever seen.

“Your decision to withdraw at the last moment—explicitly in response to the Center’s recent renaming, which honors President Trump’s extraordinary efforts to save this national treasure,” the letter, shared to the Associated Press, reads, “is classic intolerance.” And, Grenell continues, “Your action surrenders to the sad bullying tactics employed by certain elements on the left, who have sought to intimidate artists into boycotting performances.”

Grenell also took personal jabs at Redd in the letter, claiming that his show wasn’t popular. “The contrast between the public’s lack of interest in your show with the success we are experiencing under our new chairman is drastic,” Grenell wrote. Trump’s board elected him as chairman in February. “The most avant-garde and well-regarded performers in your genre will still perform regularly,” he added, “and unlike you, they’ll do it to sold–out crowds regardless of their political leanings.”

One of the most notably bizarre things about the Trump regime, to me, is how childish they are. From Trump on down, so many of them literally act like spoiled, petulant children throwing public tantrums.

Truly, the most accurate term for this government is kakistocracy

The other thing that continually surprises me is how they get away with accusing others of the things they are doing. No creativity, no strategy, no actual sleuthing to find hidden skeletons. Just “Nuh uh, you’re the one doing the bad thing we just did.”

The fact that it works blows my mind and is a big part of how I know we’re well and truly fucked as a country.

Seems to me that’s going to hurt their argument. They’re claiming he cost them a million dollars yet in the same document they’re claiming he was unpopular and there was a lack of interest in the show.

Classic authoritarian technique. All of your enemies have both insane power to stop your plans while at the same time are so incredibly weak they are not worth your time.

They’re looking to dominate with any argument because they don’t hold any principles other than trying to show you up. All of these guys use abuser/rapist mentalities.

Thank you. Every god damned time they pull this sour grapes bullshit I can’t help but think how childish they sound.

If all these better acts are just champing at the bit to play a sold out show, book one of them instead of crying about this dude that you apparently didn’t want anyway.

Same energy as a band not wanting to play at the new Hitler-Schindler Centre for Jewish Orphans and the nazis going into a mouth-frothing frenzy about how the Jewish people don’t appreciate Hitler’s efforts to help them meet their makers.

Enforcing contractual obligations isn’t unconstitutional. We don’t know what the contract actually says but it might plausibly include damages for cancelling in these circumstances.

Edit: With that said, the center isn’t helping its case by claiming things like

Your dismal ticket sales and lack of donor support, combined with your last-minute cancellation has cost us considerably. This is your official notice that we will seek $1 million in damages from you for this political stunt.

Calling the action a political stunt may allow the defendant to argue that the lawsuit is motivated by retaliation against speech even if the lawsuit would otherwise be valid, and admitting that ticket sales were dismal isn’t great if you’re going to seek damages for lost ticket sales.
