2·1 day agoSure. Outsourcing all of your pharmaceutical development to other countries:
- means you are screwed in the event of a war (economic or physical)
- means you have no control over quality of said pharmaceuticals
- means that expertise is no longer available in your own country and you are again beholden to others because those countries can charge whatever they want or refuse to sell it to you at all (see battery tech, microchip tech, solar tech for other examples).
You want to go over there and learn how to adapt their tech? Great. (We did that with the Japanese auto industry in the 1980s and we imported rocket expertise after WWII.) But things like drugs, food staples, and construction materials should be made at home. There’s a reason we subsidize farming.
Personally I think the feds should be manufacturing generic drugs to ensure availability and quality, and to provide some competition to bring prices down.

There is no way this video cost $51 million. That’s more than the budget of most non-blockbuster movies and tv shows. Sounds like someone is stashing away taxpayer money.
How could it be? We grow it here. And we’ve already paid for it through subsidies. And buying it from China means we’d have to put it on a ship to get it here.

We are surrounded by government-subsidized corn, soy, and other vegetable oil producing crops. Why on earth would we need to import cooking oil from anywhere?

From what I’ve read, that has meant more time on the job, increasing potential exposure. But I still haven’t seen anything related to respirators. Do they not wear them? Are they not provided? Do they not work? Are workers not being washed down to prevent dust inhalation before leaving their shift?
If you’re not going to wear a mask, then don’t come crying when you get sick. 🤷♂️
But seriously — is this why they are still getting black lung???
Can someone explain to me why in 2025 people are still ending up with black lung? Don’t they wear respirators on the job to prevent inhalation of silica dust?
