Red states already suck and Texas oil isn’t about to solve that problem for the rest of them. They’d crumble immediately.

Unfortunately, the hypothetical blue nation would have a food problem, especially if some red parts of blue states go over. Both such countries would have serious issues.

West coast would be fine. California grows over 50% of the fruits and nuts, and 30% of the vegetables for the entire US. The “farm belt” states mostly grow cash crops for animal feed, energy production, and overseas export.

But how would eastern California go? I feel like if states were breaking from the nation, that eastern California is risky to go with the red half.

California farm country is loudly libertarian. And most of California. Not just yellowbelly flags, but coin operated toilets at fuel stations. Not kidding. The west coast is only blue in the cities.

All three countries, you mean. West, central, and northeast.

But we’d buy the food or offer to let a breadbasket join us as long as they abide our laws. Like a Puerto Rico but with flatlanders and a parent country that wants workers to be healthy earners for longer.
