There is no precedent of postponing elections in the U.S. There were elections even during the American Civil War.
Of course precedent doesn’t seem to mean a fucking thing these days.
All that means is it’s yet to be set. That’s it. No one’s done it yet. Keep relying on laws and an old piece of paper to protect the US and there will be plenty of new precedents.
There was “no precedent” before for a a LOT of things that are currently happening right now. Precedent isn’t going to save us.
There have been examples of postponements of elections for emergencies (most notably, the mayoral primaries in New York scheduled on September 11, 2001 had to be postponed for 14 days later), I’m not aware of any instance of an actual changing of swear-in dates being postponed.
Fuckery can still happen, but I’m more worried about threats and governmental terrorism that suppresses votes on the election day that moves forward as scheduled rather than actually moving the election schedule itself.

Midterms, like all elections, are run by the states. The states will be sending their elected leaders to Washington next year. I’m confident that the midterms in my state will be honest and free.
Not if the SAVE act passes. It breezed through the House. It might not make it through the Senate, but if it does, that one act will federalize elections, in addition to disenfranchising almost every married woman in the country.
