It’s not directly relevant (and whatever your positions here are on this - this seems to be a widely reported allegation by many different sources) - I asked you specifically if just him being anti-communist is enough for you to call his views deplorable. If he didn’t, or isn’t on record of believing that regarding China - and you knew nothing else other than he is anti-communist - would you still call his views deplorable?
Also: The block system and ‘social credit’ on Piefed aren’t admin tools. An admin tool would be, for instance, being able to set up blocks on community creation for new accounts to an instance - or restricting how many links a user can post in their first 24 hours.
You’re dodging it, though. Rimu’s racism and anti-communism are deplorable, and the fact is that his anti-communism is what’s causing him to agree with unfounded racist claims. They reinforce each other.
I don’t really care how you classify the social credit system, I still don’t like it and that’s my point.

So if Rimu was not on record of making those comments, you would still call him deplorable? That’s what I am trying to get at here.

So you don’t oppose any actual admin tools then (other than the default federation blacklist)? Just the reputation system - which isn’t currently an admin tool.
If Rimu was merely an anti-communist alone, that would still be deplorable in my view, yes, it just so happens that Rimu takes it to racist levels.

I oppose things baked into PieFed, like the abusable block system and the fact that phrases can block entire comments, etc. You’re getting hung up on admin tools when I’m speaking about broader issues I have with PieFed. PieFed isn’t for me, but it’s for other people, and that’s okay.

Okay then, so then it’s acceptable presumably for people to regard lemmy.ml owners in the same way if they were so inclined.

The filter system isn’t even active anywhere to my knowledge. It’s a tool some instance admins could use if they wanted to. Tbh, I don’t see the problem in theory if they wanted to block people from slurring (for example).
Define “acceptable.” I don’t think communist views are deplorable, nor do I think opposing racism is deplorable. If someone expresses deplorable right-wing views, then that itself is bad, not simply having views.

Slurs can be filtered without needing to block the entire comment. Mods and admins can remove egregious content.

No, if someone opposed communism - they’d be justified, in their mind, to consider the lemmy devs as “deplorable”, right?

This is part of the issue here - these tools are designed on the understanding that at some point admin tools will need to scale up to deal with much more activity.

Anti-communism is itself deplorable. If someone was a Flat Earther, that doesn’t justify hating us round-Earthers, it just explains their hatred. I don’t think anti-communism is genuinely justifiable, certainly not the racist degree Rimu takes it to.

Blocking comments outright for phrases, rather than filtering them, is pretty extreme.
Interesting that you’re dodging Rimu’s racism here.
