Kamala Harris will receive protection from the California Highway Patrol after Trump revoked her Secret Service protection, law enforcement sources said Friday.
California officials put in place a plan to provide Harris with dignitary protection after Trump ended an arrangement that gave his opponent in last year’s election extended Secret Service security coverage.
Trump signed a memorandum on Thursday ending Harris’ protection as of Monday, according to sources not authorized to discuss the security matter.
I mean, tbh, I would consider VIP protection to be far less military-adjacent than police adjacent.
I am of the mind that America is headed into a civil war. I bet a chunk of the Union army in the 1st American Civil War was dedicated to guarding politicians and commanders from Confederate assassins.

Allan Pinkerton’s one saving grace is that he was an abolitionist. He volunteered his company’s services as both PR and ideological motivation. This would pay off for him in the end as the Union politicians remembered the favor and awarded his company lucrative contracts in both Reconstruction and the last of the Indian Wars… And of course, union busting.
Permanent protection services like Secret Service wouldn’t be formed until McKinley’s assassination, until then it was generally a mixture of private guards and yes, sometimes military units, but it wasn’t common for them to be permanent details.
