It worries me how companies keep trying to eliminate the human connections; it’s sort of better, service jobs are hard: you take the brunt of righteous rage and are powerless to help in anyway. Often you have quotas, kpis to meet, but imagine that very powerlessness as customer to even get someone to hear your complaint out. Getting a hold of them becomes an achievement and a bureaucratic nightmare that just makes you figure the patience required to deal with it is the punishment—sort of how governments (some), cruel ones, make the bureaucracy a slow crawl punishment where the procedure itself is hell, not the outcome of fair ruling, just a blanket punishment for anyone who even tries: a test if they have the patience, the stamina to outlast your malicious process to get the little chump change they’d be awarded.

Is it only for people with connections, with teams of people, with resources, that you acquire freedom from being exploited in many ways in life by governments, by corporations? I guess money isn’t enough to be protected; even it can be taken, lost, seized. Is there anything, anyway, any country one can be at peace? I guess not, but I do hope a system where a bad day cripples you for life is ruled out by systems that are thoughtful in enforcement that aligns with economics. Currently, systems are designed to be exploited around the world; fines, penalties are factored in as costs to business. I hope some day systems that are designed for masses would be bought in, but then I realize masses, mobs make the stupidest decisions known to mankind, and currently democracies function like corporate with short term profit motive to make the books look good in short term. The parties, the leaders of tomorrow are left holding the bags when the cheques come due. I wonder if anyone will have deep enough pockets or we’d just see the dehumanization of shared blood to cover the scraps.

Push whatever buttons needed to pretend you’re a potential new customer. You’ll get a human quick and then get transferred into the live operator queue.

That has been a thing for ages, for those with enough money. It’s called concierge services.

What do you mean it’s perfectly readable if you have a monotone inner dialogue voice like someone with flat affect because you’re emotionally shut down because of childhood trauma that’s been left untreated and you have basically a functional depressed outlook on life and you just keep going day to day feeling dead inside while keeping up a facade of a happy-go-lucky chipper person but you cry every night alone in your bed with the empty spot where your cat used to wait for you to sleep next to him but he’s dead now much like your heart and you just go to sleep alone every night and most of the time you wake up at 3AM from the usual intense dreams of being a baby in an abandoned hospital as you cry out for someone to take care of you but there’s no one so you wake up alone again and try to read the same book you’ve been trying to get through for the last two years but it’s so boring so instead you get out of bed and try to find a book you might enjoy only to find the last time you enjoyed it you were thirteen and now it’s just juvenile sci-fi and fails to grab your attention so you go back to bed and try to read the boring book again and it puts you to sleep but you wake up at 6 having barely slept so you get out again take a shower make a coffee and pretend to care about work which is basically just making next year’s landfill and you realize that the only woman you’ve ever spoken with beyond a how are you is the most attractive woman you’ve seen in your life and she’s talking with you and there’s genuine interest but you find a way to fuck that up too so you’re alone again

      Seems fine to me

Allegedly one of the perks of having platinum status with some big airline is that you never have to talk to a machine - you get connected to a human right away. It’s very telling.

Oh, this happened to me two years ago. I had the first flight of a round trip get cancelled due to a hurricane. I tried to contact support and was just put into a chat with a chatbot that said it fixed my problem… It didn’t. I didn’t qualify to talk with a human because I bought the cheapest ticket and my flight was too far out.

Isn’t this already the case? Support is offshore with people that are not given any capacity to solve problems. Decent support people are way over burdened and increasingly not given any power to fix stuff. I feel we are all ready at this.

I mean we are already halfway there, i had to do a thing with my mobile phone provider, i had to talk to a computer for 4 full hours before i was finally connected with a human, i think this is more likely, it will just get longer, maybe you’ll need 6 hours or days of talking to an AI and then they might connect you to a human
