Of course it will. This is America.
Musk should be in prison.
I first read he should be poisoned. Either one works.
Proison for Musk.
Honestly, I want musk to die and be dead and buried 6 feet under
I think piss baby fixing the race will do the most to help
There is such a massive backlash in Texas over data centers that even Abbot has back pedaled and even said no more new data centers (until November of course).
So if they are able to tie Musk’s money to getting data center concessions from the massive piece of shit crook that Paxton is, it would definitely hurt his campaign.
I thought he was going to create a new party and go all in on that. Oh, right. This is fElon.
it’s so much cheaper to buy-up an existing product than starting from scratch in a new market.
How much do you think he’ll pay to buy the title of Founder of the Republican Party (soon to be renamed the X Party)?
Genuine question from an outsider: Are there legitimate voters who haven’t already voted for Trump’s current party that now, at this exact moment in time, suddenly think it’d be a good idea to start? Essentially are there people who are now going to support him that haven’t already? Or is this more about mobilising (sorry for the spelling) the already existing vote?
As a random guy who’s been tuned into the news about these elections, I think liberals and the left are severely underestimating the power racism and a 3rd Red Scare will have in getting Boomers out to vote nationwide.
As things get tougher and tougher, and Trump’s dipshit cult never blame him for anything, they’ll resort back to their desire to see genocide on our soil and show up to the polls based on that message alone. This is the message they’re using against El-Sayed, Talarico, and virtually all other dems regardless if they’re DSA or not.
We need to not underestimate the power of stupidity in large groups of boomers. Tell all your friends to go vote in person or drop off at all only election boxes, not USPS
Thanks. Following-up on someone else’s comment: is it really just one generation that votes for Trump en masse? I see young and middle aged people (not irl) frequently advocating for him and his, uh, policies.
It’s more that older skew conservative, so a boomer is more likely statistically to be Republican, and they are also more likely to physically be able to vote in person, between the attacks on mail voting and election day not being holiday so most people 18-65 are working.
That said there exist younger fascists, but they are (a very vocal) minority of younger generations.
Others are disconnected from politics in ignorance or lack of time to pay attention.
The propaganda machines have been doing great work for fascism for the last 50 years
That all makes sense, especially what you said about the young vocal minority - i just thought they all looked identical but it’s probably the same few only that I routinely scroll past on feeds.
TBF, that last part about younger may be projection/my own echo chamber, plus I live on opposite side of country in an urban area.
Unfortunately there are plenty of non-boomers who think this way too. It’s not really a generational thing.
I would highly contest that rampant racism, fear of communism and Islamophobia aren’t uniquely more prevelant among older generations, especially as older generations so heavily support the GOP for these hateful reasons alone.

I think it’s more about mobilizing voters. Yes, voters who are paying attention have chosen their side already, for the most part. Both parties are now going after the apathetic voters.
Since we are talking about Texas, I found some data from Texas about voter turnout.
First, for the non-Americans, not that the “Primary” elections are just to pick the candidates from each major party, and in many cases are not highly contested. So many Americans just skip those. They have 12 to 15% turnout of registered voters, but those elections maybe outright canceled in some districts if neither party has multiple candidates.
For the purposes of this, also ignore elections in odd years. No Federal races are on these ballots.
The even years labeled “Presidential” have over 60% turnout the last few years. But the even years labeled “Gubernatorial” correspond to mid-term elections like this one, because Texas elects their governor at the same time. And note how that turnout is < 50% most years.
The goal of each party in the midterms is to try to motivate the 10%+ of their voters who only pay attention to the Predisential election to show up for this one, while at the same time try to discourage the voters from the other party from making the effort. Margins are so thin right now that even a Democrat can win in Texas if enough of their people show up.
Thanks. I understand why Texas “might” not actually be as Republican as they’re perceived…
Its about staunching the bleeding and preventing (more) voters from switching to Democrat. Ive talked to several people who voted red for all their life that are breaking ranks and i assume they’ve seen the same so they’re very scared. Talarico seems to have a better shot then any democrat in recent history to flip a senate seat, even more than Beto before he shot himself in the foot by going hard against guns in Texas after the mass shooting in El paso, his hometown.
Yeah, i would have thought that they’d be suffering voter churn by now, but, as others have pointed out an awful lot of Texans (of whatever political persuasion) don’t make it to the voting booth so there is the potential for it to go either way. I’ll keep watching - from a distance. Thanks.
Texas is basically at the foreground of voter suppression, tons of disinformation being thrown around, polling places being fucked with and removed last second, and for district based races, we’re basically the apex of gerrymandering in the states.
Last election tons of blue districts in houston were running out of paper ballots and not getting requisition forms filled, then they refused to extend the poll hours to let people vote, so people in disenfranchised areas waited hours to vote and still got turned away.
Freedumb and Demockracy - Texas Style.
I’m not even going to verify what you said. I’m quite “happy” to believe it.
I agree 100%. Beto would have beaten Cruz if he’d had some self-control on the Gun Issue. But his giddy justification for taking all the guns, in TEXAS, was an enormous mistake.
But it isn’t about convincing Texas MAGAs to vote Democrat, that won’t happen, but they might be convinced to not vote at all, and that’s nearly as good.
Trump got a lot of voters to flip to him in the 2024 election, including flipping some traditionally Democratic districts in South Texas that are close to the border with Mexico. These areas have much higher than average proportions of first and second generation immigrants. Between the current state of the economy and immigration enforcement tactics that somehow surprised Trump voters, they are significantly less popular nationally than they were in 2024, and the candidate is also well known and deeply unpopular with his own string of corruption charges and scandals. This race in particular is a statewide vote in Texas, so even in the best of climates a win for a Democrat was going to be a long shot, but it’s close enough to scare them. So to answer your question directly, I think in this case they are just hoping to keep enough of their previous voters to still win.
They’ve all but lost the Hispanic vote. They discovered that the Leopards are actually eating their faces.
The borser districts are traditionally democratic. They flipped because the republican rhetoric around an invasion is real to them, they get migrants through there all the time. And nationally minded democrats come trhough trying to get elected on gun control and amnesty. It was a bad mix. But now the leopards are eating their faces on several factors. The most the republicans are hoping for is depressed turn out, and outright suppression.
That seems fairly reasonable. It’s the uncertainty of it not yet being in the bag that niggles and motivates them?
Short answer is: yes there are voters to sway. Less previous party voters and more non-voters. Texas is among the lowest in voter turnout: https://ballotpedia.org/Voter_turnout_in_Texas
From 2002 to 2024, the average voter turnout rate of eligible voters in Texas was 45.0%. The national average voter turnout rate of eligible voters for this same period was 52.4%.
Thanks, makes sense with more context.
