He’s in an awkward spot. He basically has to schmooze Trump so that Trump doesn’t pull out of NATO.

I feel like it’s well known that kissing up to Trump is the wrong move. Deep down he hates that and doesn’t respect it. He might bluster at first but eventually he respects people who stand up to him or at least don’t give in and kiss his ass (Kim, Sheinbaum, Xi).

Interesting argument. On the otherhand Kim, Putin and Xi all have a lot of real power (be that economic, manpower, firepower) and, at least in the eyes of the USA, are it’s traditional opposition. I’m not sure he has any choice but to respect that power.

I think trump knows who he can bully and when he can get away with it.

He critisized the nato members who did not accept to help directly the usa war of agression. Stop making excuses for this shitty person

Well from his point of view he probably does feel like he has no choice. That doesn’t justify what Trump did and it doesn’t justify supporting him though

We don’t give a damn. Anybody who can’t condemn genocide threats is in no position to be in any position of power. He also blame nato members for not supporting the illegal war

He’s aware that he has choices but won’t do them because he has to let Israel finish it’s genocides/ethnic-cleansings first.

At this point NATO is a meaningless accord like every accord with the US. See also the ceasefire they jus threw in the bin.

Why the fuck does NATO need the US? Aren’t there enough powerful countries in NATO without them? Maybe it’s time to move away from over-reliance on the US on defence like everything else.

Hopefully it works, Trump will be gone soon, but if the US start pulling out of NATO it’ll take a lot more to rejoin. Imho, the NATO guy is playing the best game he can.

Hopefully after Trump a more moderate president will arrive, there can’t be too many like him. 😰

Imagine the NATO guy says “ok, we don’t need you USA” what then?

The EU needs either the US Empire, or to smooth things over with Russia and/or pivot more to China. NATO is just a tool of US imperial power projection in Europe, but the US Empire is pivoting away from Europe and towards Asia and Latin and South America.

One thing I like about Trump being the president is just how much he exposed the power dynamic of the imperial core. He exposed just how vile these countries are and how subservient all the vassal states are to it.

NATO is just another tool for the US to project power over the world. Mark Rutte’s words! :)
