They can, but the Republicans are going to Weekend at Bernie’s him until the 2028 election. He is their king and the only way a king is replaced is after their death. Be it natural or otherwise.

this is what gets me. He has to go but so do the republicans. Its been a slide for them for a long time but this should be the line that causeses all citizens to not vote for the party. Im not telling conservative folks to not be conservative but they need to get together and get back to traditional conservative principles like pay as you go and low deficits (no matter if they are the ones in power or not) and make a new party. It needs to be sincere about its ideals and not about just being in power to be in power.

My rationalization for why they are doing that is that vance has a better chance at holding the reigns after 47 croaks (incumbant advantage), so its important to the GOP to make sure he makes it to the 50%+1 day line of his term so that vance can run for 2 full terms of his own plus the rest of 47s term. The issue is that vance is not the cult of personality and 47 kicking the bucket will set off an internal power squabble that may end up spoiling their ticket while their hemmoraging support because 47 and his ilk are a cavalcade of fuck-ups.
