It was a lateral “promotion”. She was put in an unimportant box where she can’t really do anything.

The first thing I wondered when I heard the news was if she knew, because this same thing has happened before. Despite “you’re fired” being the phrase that made Trump famous, outside of scripted television he’s a chickenshit coward who can’t fire underlings in person. He has to do it indirectly to avoid confrontations.

I’m willing to bet that her replacement will largely do the exact same thing but with better media training and less of a PR disaster.

He’s able to hire and fire cabinet members as he wills per Article II of the U.S. Constitution about executive power. Is the DHS one of the protected that needs cause?
