It shows that he has no ideals, no plans, no morals. He will give and say anything and everything to enrich himself.
It’s all about the power, money is just power. He failed in business, couldn’t hack it, so he ran for public office. Now, he’s “the most powerful man in the world”. That’s why he did it. But, he still believes that money is the real power, and he still considers himself a failure, so he’s wielding the power he has as hard as he can to compensate.
