Oh yay the latest way that Trump will kill more Americans!
Mercury America Great Again
One wonders if this is by design. Keeps the constituent too dumb and I’ll to understand that they’re being fucked by their leaders. It’s a conspiracy theory, of course, but it’s hard not to see it this way
Right now any conspiracy theory about Trump’s administrations seems plausible.
Of all the things… Do they have meetings where they’re like, “we’re not doing enough pointlessly evil things that have no benefit to anyone!” ‽
“People always tell me that water is great for you. Water’s great. Water’s great. Which is why I want to do even better than water. Hydrogen sulfide is even better than water, you know. They call water H2O. Well, they call this H2S. And H2S is better for you because it has more protons in it. The sulfur has more protons. And protons are basically hydrogen, and hydrogen is good for you, otherwise water wouldn’t be good for you. So everyone should try some hydrogen sulfide, also known as Trump Water. It’s real good for you. It is.”
Is that a real quote? Seriously asking.
No. But it sounds like something he’d say, doesn’t it?
It really does, but it sounds too intelligent is the give away, this guy isn’t going to remember new words like that either. I guess that’s the tell.
It will save coal power plants something like 20,000/year, almost nothing considering the amounts they make, according to what I read if I recall correctly.
I actually wouldn’t be surprised… In this case it’s more likely a call to Trump that went something like “heya fellow rapy, rich dude. Listen, I could afford a lot more new yachts if I didn’t have to pay for all this pesky nercury detection and filtering stuff, can you help me out by being your douchy self?”
That’s the thing, though: Removing that mercury filtration system is going to be expensive and require re-certification. There’s no point. The price has already been paid.
It’s like someone heard that mercury removal from coal power plants costs a lot of money and saves lives so they said to themselves, “saving lives‽ We can’t have that! The more people that die from pollution, the better!” And set policy based on that instead of examining the reality of the economics.
This kills my only hope …… a couple weeks ago I was trying to be positive on environmental news and made a big deal to my kids that during their lifetime they’ll be able to eat unlimited tuna.
The general recommendation for tuna has always been to limit it to once a week, to moderate mercury poisoning. The mercury is generally from coal emissions. However globally we appear to be at peak coal and likely to drop quickly, given china’s rapid buildout of renewables both there and in developing countries, and given US coal use has been declining for years. In only a couple decades we’ll have greatly reduced mercury contaminating the ocean food chain, a few more years for it to drop out of the food chain, then MTGA, Make Tuna Great Again!
It seems inevitable but this one deranged individual can noticeably slow the process. Can I still hope my kids will see it?
“In fact, fuck it. We’re going to add MINIMUMS. At least one pound of mercury per tonne!”
