Gonna hear a lot from the people who care about this so I’ll chime in with my thoughts that are somewhat counter to that. I don’t like guns. I don’t think anyone should have them I don’t care what your reason is or why you want them (including police for standard duties). People who have guns and have “genuine uses” for multiple firearms are all people who live in rural Australia. At our core we’re a metropolitan country and we shouldn’t cater our laws to the few. If the vast majority of the people in this country don’t want people owning multiple firearms, then we have a democratic mandate to do just that; regardless of how badly this is gonna affect your hobby.
But didn’t they realize they shouldn’t be politicizing the moment??
Wild how there’s not anything in the article of substance on the anti hate bill. Or even the gun reform one
Australia isn’t perfect but at least they do something after tragedies other than “thoughts and prayers”.
Nah this is fucked, no one here seriously supports this. Huge crackdown that only screws over people doing the right thing and massively destroys the ability to speak freely, criticise the govt or discuss real issues impacting society. The speech crackdown is so one sided it protects Jews but not Muslims. Making it illegal to read about gunpowder on Wikipedia helps no one.
I read that as “lighter” and [Pam] Bondi at first.
Good on ya, Oz!
I’m so jealous of countries that possess the capacity to react in a reasonable way to gun violence.
Australians do not support these knee jerk changes that our politicians literally did not get the opportunity to review. They were passed the same day that the 500 page legislative change was released to members of parliament. The law bans clothing with pockets because it could technically hold ammunition. This rushed knee jerk is not good for anyone. It would also now be illegal to look up gunpowder on Wikipedia.
