At least one person in Sen. Mark Kelly’s (D-Ariz.) orbit recently joked that his office should send the Trump administration a gift basket when Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth an…
I’d say you want someone charming and intelligent, which can look like charisma, I guess, but when I think of charismatic people, I think of someone trying to con you out of something. Is a different thing.
I guess at this point we’re just quibbling over semantics. Merriam Webster defines charisma as a synonym of charm. I just naturally get suspicious of such people when they want something from me, especially my vote.
Well when one of them come out as “good” then I’ll let that dumb ass catchphrase that whatever pundit has you all parroting about the democrats carry some weight. I’m not going to let “openly and unjustifyably bad” become synonymous with good.
Well then the solution of course is voting in your country’s primaries to get the people in that you want in, or be the change you want to see in the world and run for office. This is assuming you are an American of course.
But sitting in the corner pouting because whomever is running for office hasn’t passed some sort of purity test for you adequately enough is equally as stupid and one of the reasons the United States has the orange moron in charge right now.
I don’t have exact numbers in front of me, but their (the US) voter turn out is abysmally low. Added to that protest votes (or non-votes) and the like, certainly showed everyone that the protest voters were Big Mad™.
Yeah, I’m not American, and I do a lot of community building and activism where I am. I’ve also voted in every election, and I see how the candidates are chosen and how the numbers are counted and I see that that system is bullshit and will not positively effect our society on its own. Will I stop voting? Will I stop encouraging people to vote? Of course not. But I’m not going to pretend that it’s good enough by itself, or even that the system is good in any way at all. And to try to tell people it is, is just… like you might as well be a psyop for the elites. Because that is what you are doing at the end of the day.
The description I’ve heard is “front of the class minds with back of the class attitudes.” It worked for Obama, it worked for Clinton, and if we don’t recognize that it’s a winning combination we’re going to continue to get fucked in the general elections.
We don’t need a demagogue but we absolutely do need someone charismatic

Charm is more basic like the ability to navigate social situations to please others
Charisma is the confidence and ability to inspire people
Evil people can be charismatic and they make dangerous leaders but regular conmen are simply charming

Hunter Thompson claimed that lack of charisma was Jimmy Carter’s fatal flaw.
Obama was a rare combination of policy wonk who could get people excited.
can always hire the uncharismatic experts and go-getters but we do need to finally have a charismatic leader with violently good character
AOC will be 39 in 2028.
For me to be excited about AOC she has to be to the left of Bernie. The dems wont allow that.
Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.

Are you suggesting they only hire the best people? Where have I heard that before?
