Yeah, I’m not American, and I do a lot of community building and activism where I am. I’ve also voted in every election, and I see how the candidates are chosen and how the numbers are counted and I see that that system is bullshit and will not positively effect our society on its own. Will I stop voting? Will I stop encouraging people to vote? Of course not. But I’m not going to pretend that it’s good enough by itself, or even that the system is good in any way at all. And to try to tell people it is, is just… like you might as well be a psyop for the elites. Because that is what you are doing at the end of the day.

Cool, then it doesn’t matter if you’re excited about AOC.

That’s awesome that you are working for positive change! More people need to do that, the world would be a much better place!

And yes, from what I read Kalama was by far not a perfect candidate and the American’s democratic party is definitely not free from sin, horrible decisions, etc. But one, I’m not telling people that on Lemmy that that part is perfect and they should absolutely vote for them without thinking, but look at the messaging of each of those parties. And look at the American system of politics. They are stuck in a two party system. Which party is the one that wants to deport everyone who isn’t white, and which one is the one that doesn’t want to do that?

But sometimes you gotta work inside the system as it is while working for change. Like doing community building and activism, voting your conscience. More people need to be the change that they want to see by running for local office and positions. Slight progress forward or even maintaining the status quo is preferable to having a huge slide back, in my opinion anyway.

Would it be great if we could have a worldwide progressive movement way to the left, hell yeah it would! I don’t think that’s gonna happen though, so, it’s damage mitigation time. Making small changes, chipping away at the fascism that seems to be creeping up all over the place.

Anyway yeah, keep fighting the good fight and keep pushing to move things to the left, to support your community and neighbors. But I don’t think it’s pretending everything is okay to work with what ya got. Even if it isn’t perfectly progressive. And it certainly isn’t a psyop to know who you are dealing with and what their concerns and issues are by meeting them at least part of the way.

Oh yeah? Liberals have been pushing that rhetoric for the last 20 years. Hows it working out for you guys over there? You feel like the fascism is being chipped away?

Well do you see my point here though? It feels like you’re trying to undermine attitudes that actually push for real positive change and its irritating as shit when so much work is put into it.
