In a jaw-dropping moment at the House Republican retreat, President Donald Trump floated a shocking idea experts have warned about for months: ditching the 2026 midterms altogether.Speaking before Republican lawmakers at the Kennedy Center on the fifth anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Ca...
Guys, not sure if everyone gets it yet, so for those who need to catch up: There will not be any midterms. At least nothing meaningful, if they’re held at all. The right is gaslighting and the left is in denial. The right don’t want elections…they can only reduce their power.
David Frum said it best: “If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.”. He’s right, and he would know.
They might try, butbim not so sure how well it would go. States control elections, so it would be individual red states (or more correctly, states run by republicans) who would “cancel elections”. But those are also the statea full of people who demonstrated they are willing to storm capitals over election shenbanigans (i truly belive most of the jan 6ers really were convinced that the election was stolen bless their hearts).
It was the MAGAts that stormed the capital because Trump told them to. If Daddy Trump tells them the elections need to be cancelled these people will be storming blue states that try to have elections.
If only blue states have elections then the Republicans can’t lose any seats.
There are red seats in blue states still. They only need a few to gain a majority.
Really though, the election doesn’t really matter until congress recognizes them. This is the real end point. They can just choose to not accept the new members. They already tested this recently and there was little pushback. They’ve proven the theory, at least for a short term and small scale. I don’t see any reason they wouldn’t try it when it actually matters.
