Five years after the Capitol riot, some of the police officers who fought off the rioters that day say they’re still struggling with what happened
Things are continuing to happen that shouldn’t be. People in power who should be in jail. How do you go on living in a reality full of psycho rapists that constantly deny it for their own hellscape? No one got your back.
I throw my lot in with the great many good people fighting to make things right, to create a better future. The midterms in the USA are coming up soon and we need to vote the Republicans out of power, and we need to show up to defend congress if the Jan 6 crowd are dumb enough to come back for another round.

That will be the greatest and hopefully final mistake Republicans ever make.
It’s all so terrifying. Psychopathy really is the most damaging human disorder.
“They told me that people I testified against were being released from prison,” Gonell said. “And to be mindful.”
I’m almost expecting Trump to criminalize those officers.

Some of the officers did exactly that.
The Jan 6 crowd are not the people you want to be on the same side as. They wanted to make Trump the permanent ruler.
The police are also not the people you want to be on the same side as.
That depends. When police kneel in solidarity with protestors, when they ask for bodycams and advocate for accountability, then I side with those police. When they repel a mob trying to overthrow the US Election which removed Donald Trump from office, I side with those police.
Those same police are the ones who bash protestors heads in with batons, lift their hood to block their cars cameras, and lie to cover each other. The bad apples have spoiled the bunch.

And if they bashed a minority protesting against oppression? Which let’s be honest, is the more likely outcome compared to once in a lifetime event.
Advocating for the police to beat up people is not a win.
The vast majority of protests and responses to protests in the USA are peaceful, with the George Floyd nationwide (and international) protests being some of the statistically most peaceful protests in the nation’s history.
We cannot tolerate the intolerant. We cannot be peaceful with the violent. That is why we need police, all of the issues you pointed out are because police are not held to a high standard of accountability.
