California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday said he’s still “stunned” by the eight senators who voted with Republicans to reopen the government, a deal his office previously called a “surrender.”

After holding a rally in Houston last week to tout California’s redistricting measure’s victory and criticize Texas Republicans’ own move to redrew district maps, Newsom attended the COP30 UN Climate Conference in Belém, Brazil. There, he told The Associated Press that at his “core, I’m stunned.”

“I’m not coming in to punch anybody in the face, but I’m not pleased that, in the face of this invasive species that is Donald Trump, who’s completely changed the rules of the game, that we’re still playing by the old rules of the game,” the West Coast Democrat said.

anyone pretending that the 8 dissenting Dems are acting in good faith is either delusional or part of the problem

Yeah, for all his slick press releases, Newsom very much fits the latter category.

He’s a Neoliberal demagogue shill for billionaires trying to launch a presidential bid. That’s all there is to it.

He’s much better at communicating and dealing with the present day republican tactics than most in the party, but we know that, at heart, they all have corporate greed as their master.

More empty rhetoric from a thoroughly establishment dem.

I wish we could shunt off all these warmed-up press releases from the newsom 28 campaign to an enough newsom spam community.

Yeah, that’s how I see him too. Assuming we even have elections by then, he’s gonna keep up this charade through a 2028 primary bid where all real establishment challengers magically drop out, immediately switch to more centrist rhetoric for the general and claim to the left that he’s just playing ball, and then proceed to have zero progressive accomplishments in office if he gets there.

(Un)fortunately, that’s not gonna happen. Even if American democracy survives the midterms, it’s not gonna survive an establishment Dem in the general.

Well those are the old rules. The new rules say you really outta be punching some of these fascist pricks in the face.

So far the only one who’s been punched in the face has been Elon. And look how soon after that happened that he stepped back from government shit. It clearly works.

You can out chicken a party that have zero empathy and actively hates the poor. Things were past the 30 day point and still republicans didnt give a fuck or care to negotiate. Trump is so senile he doesnt even know what’s happening.

Dems got their messaging win, they made their point, they won elections and got another year of assistance for the people who need it. Which runs out right before midterms.
