“How absolutely pathetic,” declared the Justice Democrats, an advocacy group that focuses on assisting progressive challengers willing to take on more establishment lawmakers in office. “Your voters expect you to hold the line for their basic healthcare and food benefits. This is just surrender. Every Senate Democrat that joined Republicans to pass this sold the American people out and we should make sure they have no future in public office.”

“Let’s be clear — this proposal isn’t a compromise, it’s a capitulation,” said Rep. Jonathan L. Jackson (D-Ill.). “Millions [will] lose their health coverage, and millions more [will] face skyrocketing premiums. The Senate should reject this misguided plan. In the House, my vote will be HELL NO.”

The Democratic Party is dead and liberal centrism is an obstacle to progress, the DNC is not a bulwark against fascism it is a tacit and cowardly endorsement of it.

Democrats just condemned ~50,000 US citizens to death every year, let that sink in…

According to the report, premiums for Americans who buy their own health insurance will double on average next year, while 15 million people are expected to lose coverage as a result of the Republican budget. The report details how the cuts would substantially increase the number of uninsured Americans in every state in the country and double the uninsured rate in some states, including Massachusetts and Louisiana. A study from Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania estimates that the cuts could cause more than 50,000 unnecessary deaths every year.

The report includes dozens of firsthand accounts from Americans facing life-threatening consequences:

Do you even understand the issue you’re talking about? Yes, premiums are still going to double if the government stays shut down!

Literally the only way they are not going to double is if Republicans allow a vote and approve the additional funding.

And by shutting down the government, Democrats have made it clear who is responsible for this. And by reopening the government they have forced a vote that should be very high profile.

Keeping the government shut down was not going to stop the premiums from doubling as you say.

Republicans aren’t going to vote to continue the subsidies next month. And they won’t when the CR expires in the new year. What they needed to do was force the Republicans to extend the subsidies now.

The Democrats are feckless cowards who serve the Republicans everything they want on a silver platter

But Republicans already made it clear they weren’t going to allow a vote when the government is shut down.

If you honestly believe they would have allowed a vote, then I understand where you’re coming from.

Personally, I think they would have allowed the government to remain shut down forever. Or, worse, they would have removed the filibuster and began passing all the laws they really want.

Republicans are behold to the same corporate interests as the Democrats. The busiest travel week in the country is coming up and airports are already buckling under the shutdown pressure. Now millions have suffered for nothing.

And you think Republicans would cave?

Personally I do not. But I could also see the end killing the filibuster. Which would have been even worse for everybody.

Yeah. They would have caved. It was the epitome of how Republicans are destroying government.

They would have caved or there would have been consequences.

And it’s better to lose all of our airports, publicly, loudly, and visibly, than it is to lose our entire Judicial branch of government.

Well, I certainly disagree that they would have caved.

As for losing the judicial branch. Not sure what a government shutdown would have done there. I don’t think saving that was ever in the cards.

It makes the damage that’s being done loud and visible instead of quietly having our country dismantled without people noticing because “they don’t follow politics” and the lack of Due Process hasn’t affected them personally yet.
