I wish her the best of luck, but seriously, I’m to the point now where I sincerely think a clean break from the DNC and the creation of a new party is going to be a better move. Get all the progressives to do that, and you’ve got the nascent core of a new party that actually aligns with the interests of the vast majority of citizens.

The fascists proved that it’s easier to appropriate an existing tool than build a new one from scratch.

I think I disagree because there are just so many ridiculous roadblocks to ballot access for third parties in different states, plus even if you can overcome that and win you’ll run into a bunch of institutional roadblocks if you don’t caucus with a “major” party (e.g. if you want a seat on one of those bipartisan committees that hash out 90% of the discussion on a lot of boring-but-important stuff before it even gets to the legislature), but I can definitely see where you’re coming from

It’s a nice thought but personally I think it would split the vote and nobody but Republicans will be able to win for a long time.

Democrats have done nothing to earn our vote, their entire policy for years has been ‘we are not Trump’ despite being exactly like him. At this point they can’t be trusted to represent our needs in government because they are owned by the same bankers and corporations that own Republicans. If people support 3rd parties and the DNC suffer losses because of it that’s their creation.

Better for building a principled platform, sure, but way worse if we actually want that platform to win. Basically every new successful party in this country emerged when one of the existing parties completely dominated the other.

If we want a progressive party, step one is to keep the Republicans from winning anywhere. Destroy the Republicans, and you give politically savvy progressives the confidence to vote progressive without risking abject fascism.
