Brandon Johnson’s order directs city police not to collaborate with federal agents in immigration enforcement

The mayor of Chicago has signed an executive order outlining how the city will attempt to resist Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Brandon Johnson pushed back on Saturday against what he called the “out-of-control” Trump administration’s plan to deploy large numbers of federal officers into the country’s third-largest city, which could take place within days.

The Chicago police department will be barred from helping federal authorities with civil immigration enforcement or any related patrols, traffic stops and checkpoints during the surge, according to the executive order Johnson signed.

It’s a start. Go further and have the police document every encounter, get badge numbers and names and make the info public. And don’t show up when the public starts taking some accountability into their own hands.

I don’t understand this. Its pathetic.

You shouldn’t be telling your police to “not cooperate” with masked thugs who have invaded your city and have kidnapped countless of your citizens.

You should be telling your police to conduct raids to arrest the kidnappers.

None of them are illegitimate. ICE personnel should be arrested, as well as any other vigilantes trying to kidnap people from our communities

Have you met the our police? Don’t expect the racist and xenophobic hogs to be any help.

Yeah, I can’t help reading about the Chicago Police Department (CPD) being instructed not to go along with Tom Homan without thinking of the stories about the Homan Square facility in Chicago where CPD would detain people for days without charging them, without giving them access to their lawyers, etc. If we’re thinking CPD are supposed to be some kind of bulwark against fascism, we’re SO fucked.

Edit: To be clear, as far as I know, the shared name is a total coincidence, but it really makes it hard not to think about the history of the department.

Cops would love to not need warrants to persecute people, so they’ll love this new trend of enforcement.

I keep saying this isn’t going to go the way the regime thinks it is.

He wants to bully and intimidate left voting strongholds into submission. It’s part of Project 2025. It won’t work. Mostly it won’t work because it’s all a big show with some real arrests and detaining. Entertainment, essentially.

I wish I had your positive outlook. But my pessimistic attitude tells me that Fascism doesn’t listen to “orders” when the people tasked with physically enforcing those orders are significantly more aligned with the fascist.

At the end of the day, it’s the police on the ground that will choose whether or not to assist ICE. Even if they were at risk of losing their job ICE is offering them a comfortable position the same day.

I think we will see police departments losing officers as they decide ICE is what they really want to do. I have no faith in the racist and xenophobic police departments of our country to be the “line of defense” against this fascist takeover. And you shouldn’t either.

I don’t trust the police to do the right thing.

Police are not a defense against the Feds, and never were meant to serve and protect the people.

That’s not what I am claiming either. Chicago is an urban beast that there just simply aren’t enough Feds to do whatever it is they want to do without people obstructing them.

The Feds have a plan, or at least the concept of a plan. More like they have a goal. I’m saying that the ‘goal’ will remain out of reach, much to their dismay.

I think the goal is state violence. I don’t think they will shy away from that. They want a “scary black/foreign gang” to make into a villain. And it won’t matter if that’s true. I think you underestimate where this is headed. But we will see.

I’m actually surprised the Nat-C’s didn’t go for Chicago first, since it’s been a dog whistle to bring up at least ever since Obama ran for office.

Jfc for some reason my mind kept reading “Brandon Johnson” as “Hunter Biden” and I think I just realized why.

GOP used brainwashing. It’s super effective!
