I guess we’re at the normie stage since OP apparently doesn’t know how this meme works.

They can’t fuck off the fediverse, only their own instances. That is the advantage of decentralized networks.

I would like a future where smaller companies set up instances and compete with each other rather than one big evil business in control, and “normies” should be invited here, Don’t like the mentality of everything new being the special little club for the early adopters.

Yeah, that “exclusivity” attitude is the worst. I welcome anyone to the fediverse! The nature of the fediverse prevents any one entity from “fucking it up”, as the image claims; if you don’t like an instance or the instances it federates with, move to a different one that is more in-line with your values.

I would really enjoy that. Something like a microsoft or bethesda lemmy instance and hosting a type of forum instead of maintaining their own separate forum.
If they don’t like the way it is heading they could just develop their own fork of lemmy since it’s open source.

That goes strongly against the mechanics of how capitalism works. Markets tend toward monopolies over time.

Its impossible though to get rid of paid actors that mingle to spread ads or agendas and who are indiscernable from normal users.

As soon as the reach is there I assume capital interests will be flocking in

I agree, instead of feeling confident an enemy is defeated with the first defense, you should always assume it’s feigning defeat for the next attempt. Money is a huge motivator, you can never feel safe from paid actors they’ll always bleed in through the cracks. Especially when firms see us as something new to leech onto with claims of being untouchable. It’s like we’re taunting them. 😣

We just need to post stuff so ridiculous that advertisers either don’t want to be here or take part in the shitshow (would be kinda funny to see a ad for a Cereal that looks like a MLG shit post)

I can see a world where when the Fediverse/Lemmy grows more, a big corporation buys out the top 10 (or whatever) Lemmy instances, combines them and defederates from all other instances. Add a new frontend, a shitty app, and run ads and et voilà.

The majority of users (“normies”) won’t switch instances and so the cycle repeats.

You are right. That’s awful. Be right back, making my own instance and trying get it into the top ten ones.
