so, i’ve got soooo many things to talk about. that are somewhat science-related, but not specific enough to be “science news” or “ask science”. just spontaneous thoughts or analogies that i think of. i never know where to post them. showerthoughts? nah, i put more thoughts into it than that. ask lemmy? nah, it’s often not even a question, more a general remark. infodump? nah, it’s not well-enough researched for that. where do i put it?

I always feel like my meme skills aren’t on point enough to post in that community, heh.

Try the: “i have no idea about and at this point i’m afraid to ask.”

or the “change my mind” one

        God, memes are fucking shite.

What we really need are good science communicators, people who can explain science to people who are ignorant or afraid of it.

what i’ve found consistently is that science communicators lack proportionality. they will talk about one small detail excessively meanwhile ignoring the heap of knowledge that would be more important to the reader. i have always had an issue with this approach as it feels unfair - proportionality is at the heart of fairness.

so yeah, i hope to fix that hole in supply.

There a a hell of lot of sciencers that are good at that, or they can’t talk to anyone outside their field, even other sciencers. Source: me, working in vaccines, virology, microbiology etc. I have a lot of questions about other fields.

Edit: I will admit, being the science writer for outside communication/media makes a lot less money.

Be the change you want to see! I’d join that community. I do a lot of what I call “informal” science which I’m happy to share.

i guess /c/[email protected] could work

      mander.xyz is a generic science-themed instance

“chat” is generic enough that it doesn’t have to be a “minimum quality standard” or anything i guess. more like a mixture of shitpost, chat and infodump channel.

This sounds like it would be great for [email protected]

You can make a community for only casual science chat, but I don’t think there will be enough content to sustain it long term

oh i do have a lot to post. i had at least 10 posts to make the last 3 weeks, they’re all scattered among different communities now.

/c/casualconversation is too normal for me. i think science stuff wouldn’t fit in
