So I guess they’re prepping for that hyper-inflation now. Can’t wait for a cup of coffee to cost $75 and a month’s rent to be $20,000. But hey, look on the bright side, I’m sure the stock market will look amazing breaking through all those all time records.

Speaking of, that would be an interesting exercise. They always talk about how various funds and stocks are up or down some percent over the previous day/week/year or whatever. It would be interesting to see that same data but adjusted for inflation. Like is the dow jones up 2% from last year or is it really down 0.5% due to inflation?

Untrue. They’ll find some excuse to lower it. “See! Minimum wage increases make inflation go up! The ONLY way to fix it is to lower the minimum wage!”

I wish. They’ll just look to abolish minimum wage entirely. “The free market will enforce a true minimum wage on its own without the need for pesky government interference. If you own your own business and you understand what you’re employees’ labor is worth, then you and you alone should be deciding what to pay your employees. If it’s too low for them to accept, then they will go elsewhere, and somebody who is willing to work for you at that wage will fill the job.”

They will proclaim that your protections are actually chains, and 1/3 of the country will cheer for the “chains” to be removed. Freedom! America! Yay fascism!

At 3.3%, the average inflation from 1914 to 2026, a cup of coffee that’s now $3.52 will be $75 in 93 years.

Rent, however, $1750 avg for apartment today will be $20000 in 74 years

I’m sure spikes in inflation will jack these numbers up faster than purely averaged rates provide

Average rent today is approximately 1750, it was about 175 in 1976. So if inflation continues at the same rate, in 50 years rent will be about 17.5k a month.
