The Onion has revealed its relaunch of right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ outlet Info Wars as a satirical site, but the deal still requires court approval.
Info Wars has remained in limbo after the families of children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012 sued Jones for defamation. Jones had baselessly claimed the mass shooting was a hoax, and as a result, he has been ordered by the courts to pay about $1.5 billion. Jones declared bankruptcy in 2022, and The Onion has been eyeing his outlet in the years since.
In The Onion’s latest effort to obtain Info Wars, the satirical news outlet announced Monday that it has reached an agreement to license the Info Wars site.
“It finally happened! They turned the frogs gay!”

I thought the courts struck their purchase offer down?
Also, if Jones has been deplatformed, why do I still see clips from his InfoWars podcast in the news? He’s talking about current events in them so it’s not just old clips.
It’s in weird limbo and had been for awhile so Jones was probably allowed to keep using the branding for income reasons or something. Though I also wouldn’t put it past him to just ignore courts.
Jones has three children. I cannot imagine being a parent and making money off of belittling other parents who lost theirs in one of the most violent and horrific ways possible.
It would be wonderful if we could simply erase this ugly man and his heinous sophistry from memory.
This episode broke me. I had no idea how hard he screwed with these peoples’ lives until this.
It’s a tiny bit premature to claim final ownership (unfortunately):
“…[I]t is not effective until Judge Guerra Gamble approves it, and Mr. Jones could appeal any ruling,” notes The Times. “That means the fate of Infowars remains in limbo until the court rules, probably sometime in the next two weeks. Mr. Jones continues to operate Infowars.com and host its weekday program, ‘The Alex Jones Show.'”
They seem confident enough to sell merch with the brand’s name:

It’s a gamble
As far as I can tell it’s still the Alex Jones version.
It wasn’t satire before? Omg. Some people are fucking stupid.
