There has been speculation that he’s going to retire after the Supreme Court’s current term so Trump can appoint a replacement before midterms. One supposed sign is that Alito has a memoire coming out just after the Court’s next term begins, and the justices usually do their book releases between terms so they can promote them without court getting in the way.
Or… Dems take back both chambers of congress and then he keels over, and then they just refuse to consider any nominations until after next election
