First, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I was between society/politics/technology. But since politics means “related to the city” I thought this would be a good place to post this.

It’s a reminder of the symbolic design change in Facebook (2015) from Man in front to Woman in front on the Friends category and Groups category.

Also a minor change on the globe icon.

And then next year it came out they were giving everyone’s data to Cambridge Analytics, so they pulled a Phillip-Morris and renamed the company Meta hoping you’d forget their scandals.

But at least they got a girl icon.

Yup. I’m thinking a whole lot of self-satisfied small actions like this happened and a lot of butthurt fragile males saw this kind of stupid stuff - centering females instead of males in icons - and thought, “oh yeah? watch this!” - and then gleefully voted for the very worst conservative they could find as revenge. For the moment, that’s Donvict.

Fast forward ten years and women don’t have bodily autonomy any more and married women are in danger of having their vote taken away. And I guess at least we’ll have female-centered icons for the moment - at least until Donvict (or “JD” after him) gets around to issuing an EO and companies like Meta bend the knee…

This almost perfectly sums up so many stupid things that I hate about the left. And I’m on the left.

For people only marginally paying attention to politics - and there are many - when someone runs across something like this, I can understand why it may create more reactionaries.

I kept re-reading, looking to see where this is being farcical. Apparently, it’s real? I wonder if that author has any idea how ridiculous they come off. They redesigned a logo that annoyed them? And centered the female instead? JFC.

it’s probably very important to her in an age where Facebook was dominant and the equality measures weren’t really out there as mainstream. There were no mainstream movies, no general consensus about the female leading role in equality and so on.

If you’re a designer in 2015 and Facebook gives you a role to overhaul the looks and put women-first, I think I would be really starstruck too.

such stupid takes. the article started on a braindead note and it didn’t get better

interesting view into a mind occupied with useless bullshit.

i imagine they would have called Göbbels Buero a magical place too probably. If we put a smiley face on the swastika it would come across as more friendly
