Foreign minister Anita Anand says she has drafted principles to reduce risk of regional spillover and wider shocks

Canada is pushing for a collective G7 and Middle East approach to de-escalating the Iran war, including off ramps that could bring an end to the conflict, the Canadian foreign minister, Anita Anand, has said.

In London to meet the UK foreign secretary, Yvette Cooper, after talks with the her Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, Anand told the Guardian she hoped a G7 meeting chaired by France, this year’s president of the group, might start to build a broader collective approach to the crisis.

    Anand stressed Canada’s lack of enthusiasm for the US-Israeli assault, but at the same time described Iran’s response as reprehensible and a breach of international law.

    The US bombs Iran into the stone age and it’s Iran getting criticized for breaking international law. Fucking vassal state. Also can you tell us what those “off ramps” are going to look like? Because “Uncle Sam stops this round of illegal bombings but you stay a pariah state so you can be bombed again next year” isn’t going to cut it.

      I think unless those off ramps include turning Israel into glass or forcibly imprisoning their entire leadership structure, the conflict won’t stop because regardless of any ceasefire agreed Israel will keep bombing Iran and Lebanon.
