It’s a romanticization of the yeomanry, who formed the earliest European settler-colonists (killing indigenous peoples for their land). The idolization of the yeoman farmer, tilling “their” land, is both idolizing the earliest European perpetrators of genocide in the Americas and distorting the fact that today, agriculture is done in capitalist fashion, as you point out.
