Because that distraction from The Trump Files Featuring Jeffrey Epstein has worn out its traction. Time too e on to the next: invade Iran!

Art. Of. The. Deal. Push on any leverage perceived or actual regardless of the side effects and then collect concessions. Rinse, repeat.

He forgot about Greenland and moved on to his next anger fixation. He’ll cycle around back eventually.

I think they found out that it’s too hard to pull off without breaking too many alliances, so it was easier to switch their gaze to starving Cuba and probably bombing Iran soon

It was doing enough to distract from the fact he’s in the Epstein list so it’s usefulness was over.

Yeah, this is really the answer. Over and over and over again, it’s clear that the policy of his regime has always been to “flood the zone”.

Every single week, they do something unique and so heinous that it would have ended any prior administration. They can keep things from sticking by just continuing to do stuff like that and get popular focus on a new thing. The people that should be able to keep them accountable legally are similarly overwhelmed.

Greenland was probably never a serious thing for the regime, it just had to serve a purpose of keeping their opponents busy. It’s the political equivalent of a gish gallop.

we are in 2026 so all effort is about how to best steal the election. Once that is over the crazy will go back to full throttle for another year and then tone down unless they fix the pesky elecion problem in 2026.

Greenland was an unpopular issue, even among conservatives and Republicans. The past year has not gone well for the GOP and this was yet another thing hurting their midterm chances for 2026.

The EU agreed to a framework for a deal that gives the US nothing it doesn’t already have. Trump is either truly convinced he’s come out on top and sees it as a win, or is using it as an excuse to back away from it while declaring victory to his base.

But the damage is done and will be done for a long time to come. We have the same benefits that always existed from treaties between the two nations, but now with a needlessly difficult and contentious diplomatic relationship. Such a monumentally stupid thing adding to the ever growing list of monumentally stupid things the US is doing.

To add to this correct answer, NATO allies were sending military assets to Greenland. Not even trump can destroy THAT Imperialist dragon.

Trump, if nothing else, knows how to read the room. The problem is that he doesn’t govern alone. He can say he’s pulling ICE agents out of Minnesota because it’s cratering his popularity, but nobody in his own party takes that seriously. What makes Greenland unique is that it would take Trump’s approval to launch an invasion, and Trump knows what it would do to his popularity.

To be absolutely clear this isn’t an defence of Trump in any way. It’s just “he knows how to read the room” and nothing else.

Because Greenland repeatedly tells him they’re not for sale. And they mean it. They’re not budging.

Or Trump got quiet because surprise ambushes are best executed without notice.
