In a rare defeat, three House Republicans bucked their leaders to block legislation that would have restricted Congress’ ability to strike down Trump’s tariffs.
With the threat of additional tariffs looming over foreign countries — and the 2026 midterms — House GOP leaders tried to adopt legislation Tuesday night that would prevent any lawmaker from forcing a vote on Donald Trump’s tariffs until August.
That effort failed, however, 214-217, after three Republicans joined all Democrats to defeat the legislation.
Tucked into a rule setting up floor consideration for a bill on U.S. energy security was language that would have prevented House lawmakers from challenging Trump’s tariffs until July 31. The language stipulates that certain days won’t “constitute a calendar day” for the purpose of terminating national emergencies — the authority Trump has used to impose the tariffs.
214 to 217 isn’t a revolt. It’s a clown show of how many ‘elected officials’ are chill to become Nazis and kill the other half and every person they represent in this country.
I hope they realize that the more more they hand over to Trump the less necessary their jobs become.
Eventually Trump will just dissolve Congress because what’s they point of their jobs anymore?
He wouldn’t be wrong honestly. They have failed to check his power which is their one fucking job.
The conservatives like to talk about meritocracy and performance metrics, but that apparently it is never applied to them.
