    Ah I had them reversed.

Point is still this method is essentially shadow banning those being downvoted constantly. There are times it can be trolls but going against the grain in certain instances could get them hidden for simply saying what others don’t want to hear. Especially when political topic.

Or as it’s lemmy, witch hunts for being a tankie

I agree. Although mostly, 9 times out of 10 its low-effort trolls and spammers that get that. Also it doesn’t really hide anything, it’s just a warning sign.

        For now.

Or in a political environment, or a targeted campaign by instances because someone isn’t pure enough.

It’s even again in the welcome doc

The ‘Rep’ column is their reputation. As you can see, some people have been downvoted thousands of times. They’re not going to change their ways, are they?

I see no reason why it would ever change to do anything more than that.

Or in a political environment, or a targeted campaign by instances because someone isn’t pure enough.

If that happened, we would look into it and likely bring it up to the fediverse.

Also, downvoters like that tend to get instance banned meaning they can’t maintain it.

Because it always starts small then escalates

Only if they’re downvoting those the admins of the instance like

              Escalates to what.

Only if they’re downvoting those the admins of the instance like

I meant banned from other instances as much as I did home-instance banned. But I’d also add that instances that tolerate and endorse the mass indiscriminate downvoting of other people off-instance would possibly find themselves defederated as well.

To entirely automated banning or hidding accounts.

They should but again if it’s downvoting things the admin dislikes already they won’t care.

The point is piefed built in a system people can and will game

I would oppose that, and I doubt Rimu would do that.

Then the instance would find itself defederated I suspect.
