When a battle begins, both sides take information back to the past to turn the tide in their favor. When the battle changes from this new information, more people go to the past with updates. This eventually results in a stabilized version of the battle resistant to timeline changes.
Therefore, if time travel exists, something similar could have happened to our world. Due to various opposing factions in the future, Trump’s rise has stabilized in the timeline we currently exist in. If someone tries to changes that, the timeline will again correct itself due to additional intervention.
