Unions don’t form because there are rights to be wronged. Unions form because there’s an opportunity to make money. They’re a profitable service sought by workers due to mistreatment by employers. A small number of dedicated individuals can organize a few thousand people, secure more funding, and collect dues to sustain the effort.

We’re not disorganized because we’re lazy (mostly); we’re in denial. Nothing like this has happened in our lifetimes, and we still hold out hope that someone will come around and sort it out.
