According to the 2002 census, there were 3,246 Romani individuals living in Slovenia.[1] They constitute 0.5 percent of the total population.[2] The Slovenia Roma speak Balkan Romani and Italian.[3] The Roma have been living in Slovenia since the 15th century.[4]
So did they just now become a threat, or was it for the past six centuries too?
Police has enough power already, they just didn’t use it for some reason. This power will be abused plenty for sure when SDS or other far right part comes back in power. This is a stupid populistic law just because elections are near.
The Roma are an easy target because traditionally, they haven’t owned land and have been their own political entity, not beholden to any local government.
This makes them difficult to control, which makes them extremely dangerous to property-based politicians.
Think of it— Western government is generally based on the premise that people who live in defined geographic areas select representatives to govern them. And the Roma live wherever they want, with their own language, culture and politics, and can’t be manipulated based on where they live and who controls that land.
Great looks like someone else is gearing up for some subjugation of some minorities.
The Roma really have a knack for pissing people off, don’t they?
Jews really have a knack for annoying nazis, don’t they?
Trans people really have a knack for riling up bigots, don’t they?
Women really have a knack for attracting rapists, don’t they?
It’s funny, if you look at any government that wants to legislate some nasty laws into place they will pick some targets that “everyone” agrees on.
in this case the law is the power to declare an area a “security risk area” where police can search any home or space without a warrant under the guise of “gun crime”, this is fucked and is an insane breach of privacy and liberty.
And their reason is the the Roma. other popular reasons across history have been the Jews, the blacks, the Latinos, the asians, the children, the Arabs, pretty much whatever boogeyman is likely to be accepted by their population.
If anyone thinks law will be exclusively used against the Roma or even exclusively used against criminals they have rocks in their heads.
